The weather was somewhat murky when Elizabeth got dressed and ready for the walk with Alexander the following morning after he had been round her house. The events from yesterday still struck a chord in her mind and dreams from the night had involved Alexander making a number of appearances which made her heart warm with joy.
Even though she still wasn't feeling better from yesterday, Elizabeth was determined not to let the pain bring her down and put her off doing a rare event with the boy she loved. Wearing walking clothes and holding her father's rucksack which contained water and food, she sat in the car with her mum as she travelled the thirty minute journey to Alexander's house where they were due to meet. Heart pounding, Elizabeth's mind was full of nerves. After all, she and Alexander had never been this close to each before and without her friends around them either.
Alexander waved from the front door as Elizabeth and her mum pulled up in front of her house. Elizabeth smiled as she opened the car door and with her rucksack, walked towards him.
"Will you be OK Elizabeth?" asked her mum from the front seat.
"Of course mum, I have my phone in case something happens."
"Enjoy yourself!"
"Will do."
Alexander again smiled as he took Elizabeth's hand and held it gently in his, "It's lovely to see you."
Elizabeth blushed, "And it's lovely to see you."
There was a small pause as Alexander's mum arrived to talk to them both about the walking trail, the plan that Elizabeth found out was that she walk with them half of the way and then, the pair of them would walk alone the other half of the way.
It seemed to be a good plan until the phone rang and her voice changed.
Alexander and Elizabeth stood in the hallway of the house, wondering what on earth was going on down the phone. Whatever it was, it didn't sound too pleasant.
"You OK?" asked Alexander, "You've turned pale."
"Well, it still hurts Alexander but..."
"Will you be alright to do this, that is, if we do this?"
"Yes. I didn't want the pain to stop me doing something that you wanted to do with me."
Their conversation was interrupted by running footsteps and the grabbing of car keys.
"Mum, are you alright?" asked Alexander as he stared at how flustered she looked.
"My friend isn't well, her sister has asked me to go and spend time with her. Do you want to carry on ahead with the walk?"
The pair of them stared at each other before nodding their heads in agreement. Alexander received a kiss on top of the head from his mum as she ran out towards the car.
"Oh my word, sounds really serious." said Elizabeth as she watched from the door.
"Her friend... hasn't been good for sometime sadly. She is more like an aunt figure to me I must say."
"She will get better Alexander, we must hope together."
"Of course Elizabeth, she will."
As both of them set off on the country walk, Elizabeth tried her best to stay focused, despite the pain and the nerves that were kicking inside her. She had never been on any sort of walk or outdoor activity with a boy before and she was worried that one wrong move could put their friendship in jeopardy and that wasn't a good thing to happen.
When she started to walk alongside Alexander, the edge of her hand gently brushed past his hand causing them both to stop and stare at each other.
"Oh, sorry Alexander."
His gaze fixed firmly into her gaze, as they both stood by a large, circular stone which overlooked the countryside in the distance.
"You do have beautiful eyes." said Elizabeth as she gazed into them.
"And so do you Elizabeth."
Before either of them could start walking again, they found their hands were locked into each other, two warm hands together as a link.
"Alexander, you do surprise me!"
"Well, you surprise me. Now, let's keep walking as we stay close together."
Before long, they reached the side of a big fishing lake tucked deep away in the woods with no-one in sight. Fish milled around in the lake as both of them sat down on Alexander's picnic blanket.
"Quiet isn't it?" smiled Elizabeth, "Away from all the hustle of the city."
"I agree, this isn't the first time that I've been here, me and my friend go fishing here sometimes."
"Do you have any luck at all with the fishing?"
"I've caught some fish in the past but not recently."
As Elizabeth took a bite into her sandwich, her eyes looked up towards the tree, "I love nature."
"So do I, it's something that people should respect and love."
Alexander held her hand again in his as Elizabeth ate the rest of her sandwich contently as the sun started to show itself through the tall trees. It felt a million miles away from school and from traffic and houses. It felt like it they were both in a different world.
After a while, both of them gazed at each other before Elizabeth found herself moving towards Alexander and wrapping her arm around him to keep him close. He stared at her in surprise as Elizabeth placed her head on his chest so that she could feel relaxed. Through this, she could hear the fast-paced heartbeat from within him. Temptation took hold of her as she kissed him on the chest.
Alexander felt his body melt with emotions as Elizabeth gently kissed him on top of his chest, "Elizabeth..."
"Alexander..."
"I love you Elizabeth."
Elizabeth looked up in astonishment, "What? You told me yesterday that you didn't feel the same way as me!"
"I had a dream about you, a dream that you and I were walking hand in hand off into the sunset on a warm, gorgeous beach and that is what made me change my mind about you Elizabeth."
Her heart pounded, "And you are the only boy that I want, just you."
"And you are the first girl that I've ever fallen in love with and that's a beautiful feeling."
As they got up hand in hand still and made their way back onto the path, neither could quite believe that love was starting to play a big impact on their emotions and their lives. But whatever happened, they would be there through it all together.
This is starting to get really romantic now, awwww! About the sunset dream that Alexander had, I had the same dream as him once so I thought about weaving that into the story. Feel free to let me know your thoughts so far. Scarlett x
