Autumn had fully settled over Hogwarts, painting the castle and its grounds in a tapestry of gold, red, and orange. The crisp air and falling leaves signaled that Halloween was just around the corner, and the excitement among the students was palpable. The Great Hall was adorned with floating jack-o'-lanterns, ghostly decorations, and a myriad of enchanted lights that flickered and danced on the enchanted ceiling.

In the Gryffindor common room, preparations for the upcoming Halloween celebrations were in full swing. James Potter, Gwen Weasley, and Chris Dawson were at the heart of it all, bustling around with decorations and planning pranks. The common room was alive with the sounds of magical mischief, laughter, and the occasional magical mishap.

James, with his usual enthusiasm, was organizing the chaos. His eyes sparkled with mischief as he outlined his plans for the night.

"Alright, team," James said, spreading out a parchment with a detailed plan. "We've got a few surprises lined up. Enchanted pumpkins that will spout silly riddles, spooky sound effects hidden around the room, and a few surprises that I'm not going to spoil just yet."

Gwen Weasley, who had inherited her father's knack for magical pranks, raised an eyebrow. "You mean a few more surprises than last year's exploding pumpkins and dancing skeletons?"

James's grin widened. "Exactly. This year, we're going all out. But remember, we need to keep it all under wraps until the party starts."

Chris Dawson, who had been inflating a balloon shaped like a bat, chimed in with a mischievous grin. "And if anyone freaks out, we'll just tell them it's part of the Halloween spirit."

The Gryffindor common room was a whirlwind of activity. Banners were being hung, magical decorations were being set up, and a small group of students were busy preparing for their costumes. Daisy Dawson, now in her second year, was trying her best to keep up with the hectic atmosphere, but the excitement was hard to ignore.

Daisy had been feeling a mix of excitement and trepidation about the Halloween festivities. The previous year had been filled with strange occurrences, and while she was eager for a fun Halloween, she hoped for a quieter year. Unfortunately, tensions between her and James Potter had added an extra layer of complexity to her mood.

As she wandered through the common room, Daisy tried to avoid the commotion. She had hoped to find a quiet spot to relax and gather her thoughts. But as she passed by James, Gwen, and Chris, she couldn't help but overhear snippets of their conversation.

"Gwen, can you help me with this enchanted spider?" James asked, holding up a large, realistic-looking spider with glowing eyes.

Gwen chuckled. "Are you sure this is a good idea? The last thing we need is someone having a panic attack over a fake spider."

James waved her concerns away. "Relax, it'll be fine. It's all in good fun."

Chris, who was now working on a cauldron of bubbling potion that smelled strongly of pumpkin, added, "And if anyone gets too scared, we'll just say it's part of the Halloween spirit. Nothing to worry about."

Daisy smiled at their enthusiasm but decided it was best to retreat to a quieter space. She headed to the library, hoping for some peace and quiet.

The library, with its rows of towering bookshelves and soft, golden lighting, was a stark contrast to the lively common room. Daisy settled into a cozy corner, pulling out her Herbology textbook and opening it to a chapter on magical plants. The calm atmosphere allowed her to focus, but the tranquility was short-lived.

As Daisy immersed herself in her work, the library door creaked open, and a friendly voice called out, "Hey, Daisy. Do you mind if I sit here?"

Daisy looked up to see a boy standing beside her, wearing a Hufflepuff scarf and carrying a stack of Herbology books. She recognized him as Oliver Thompson, a Hufflepuff student from her year.
