I recently wrapped up filming half of the fourth episode. The last scene is intense—Delia is still held captive in the cellar, being fed some moldy bread and a can of tuna while her kidnapper, Sean, keeps a close eye on her. It is a relief to step away from the studio and spend some time with Ruby, a close friend forever and always.

Ruby texted me that she is in L.A. for a modeling gig, and I couldn't wait to see her. We decide to meet up at L.A. Cafe, a cozy spot with a great vibe. We find a table by the window and order some pastries and drinks—cheese danishes and macaroons—and tropical lemonade refreshers. It feels like old times as we catch up on life after Descendants.

"So, how's everything going with Kylie?" Ruby asks, taking a sip of her drink.

"We're doing fine," I reply with a smile. "We're both really happy with our careers, and we support each other despite the distance."

Ruby nods, "That's great to hear. Have you heard any of her unreleased music from the tour?"

"Of course! I love the songs. Gosh, I've been tagged by so many fan accounts. Every song holds a special place in my heart," I say, feeling a warm glow as I think about Kylie's voice.

I smile, and then my expression turns a bit more serious. "So, how are you and Josh doing after the breakup?"

She hesitates and I reach out and squeeze her hand. "Josh needs time to figure himself out, who he is. We'll always have so much love for each other and always be good friends. We support each other in everything."

"I'm glad to hear that," I say softly. "Friendship and support is so important."

We sit here for a moment, just appreciating each other's company. It is a reminder that no matter where our paths take us, our friendship will always be a constant.

As we continue to chat, Ruby shares stories from her modeling gigs, and I tell her about my experience working with Zoe Saldana, Priah, and Ariana. "Zoe is amazing, and playing her daughter, oh my gosh," I gush. "Her acting skills and professionalism are just on another level. We filmed a kitchen scene where our characters, Delia and Nia, discussed school stress and aspirations. After the scene, Zoe gave me some incredible advice on getting into character and staying grounded. It was so inspiring. Then I always hang out with Priah and Ariana outside of set. Lunch outings, shopping, and we even went Universal this week."

Ruby listens intently, her eyes wide with admiration. "Wow, that all sounds incredible. You must be learning so much from her. I'm glad you're settling in here. L.A. is bustling and there's so much to do."

"I really am, and there is a lot to do," I agree. "Zoe has this grace and insight that just makes you want to be better. It's been an amazing experience working with her, and as for L.A., it's something for sure."

Ruby smiles, clearly happy for me. "I'm so glad to hear that, Malia. It sounds like you're really thriving. I'm so proud of you. Oh gosh, I miss us, I miss the friend group."

I smile back. "I do too. So many fun times with you guys. It's been real."

We are still at the cafe, chatting away, when I decide to bring up something that has been bothering me. I take a deep breath and look at Ruby. "So, have you seen Kylie's recent Instagram posts?" I ask, trying to keep my tone casual.

Ruby nods, taking a sip of her coffee. "Yeah, I saw them. The ones where she's hanging out with that girl, Vivian, right?"

I nod, feeling a knot form in my stomach. "Yeah, that one. I don't know, Ruby. I just feel... uneasy about it. I mean, I know Kylie and Vivian are just friends, but something about it just doesn't sit right with me."
