Not Just a P.I.-Diego

You hated lying to the guy you liked but you didn't have much of a choice. The truth was something he probably wouldn't believe, at least not yet. You could hardly believe it. Being adopted by a goldfish was weird. So was time travel especially when you put the commission at the end of time into the mix. And the fact that you and him were born on the same day.

You left commission at age 25 and went to The City March, 2016. You knew you'd only have three years there but you wanted to see what the world was like before all that. You gor your PI license and opened your own practice.

You first met Diego on your third official case as a PI. He was some weirdly hot guy in a mask and leather who was also working your missing person's case. He wanted nothing to do with you and thought you should stay out of it.

You saved his ass. The cops came and the little girl was reunited with her family.

Diego told you, "I thought I told you to stay out of it"

You couldn't believe him, "Are you kidding me? I just saved your ass in there"

"I would've been fine"

"I seriously doubt that. Next time, don't interfere with my case"

Diego didn't listen to you. He was too stubborn to back down. One of your next cases, you were tailing a rich guy. His wife was pretty sure he was cheating and embezzling from his work.

Some idiots decided to rob the house while the not so happy couple was home. You called the police. Diego heard it over the radio and came. Once you saw him go inside, you went in too.

The idiots had guns, Diego had knives, you had pepper spray. It was a blur, you were a badass and so was Diego. A gunshot went off, grazing Diego's side. By the time you heard the sirens, the criminals were blinded by pepper spray and you realized it was time to go. You grabbed Diego and ran. You only let him go once you were outside. He didn't seem too happy

You decided to follow him, "Where are you going?"

He replied, "My car"

"You probably shouldn't drive, you're injured"

You weren't too sure on that. You didn't know how bad the graze was.

Diego snarked back, "Well I don't listen to you"

"Come on, just let me help you, Diego"

He stopped in his tracks and turned around, "How do you know my name?"

Shit. You were psychic, that was your power, but telling him that wasn't a good idea. There were plenty of plausible way you could know.

You replied, "You just told me. Diego was just a guess based on the whole knife thing"

He thought for a few seconds before saying, "I could probably use some medical attention"

He knew he could handle himself if things went sideways. You did just go in the house to try and help him after all. Were you worth his trust.

You told him, "Well it's a good thing for you I have a first aid kit in my office and it's only five minute away. You think you'll be okay until then?"

He smirked, "I'll try not to bleed out on the way"

It was a drive full of awkward silence. You let yourself and Diego into the building. It wasn't the best but it was what you could afford. Plus your apartment was right above it.

You quickly went over to where you kept the first aid kit and rubbing alcohol. You grabbed it and walked back over to Diego.

You told him, "If you want me to help you with the graze, you're gonna have to take your shirt off"

"That's not how I usually get asked to take my shirt off"

You rolled your eyes and Diego took his shirt off.

You got the rubbing alcohol ready, "This might sting a little"

And it did. You cleaned it up and put a gauze bandage over it. You made sure to tell him that if it got worse, he should go to a hospital and seek professional medical attention. He seemed pretty sure your amateur medical attention was fine.

You offered to drive him back to his place or his car. He opted for the car. He lived in the spare room of a gym and didn't want you to know that.

Diego unbuckled his seatbelt, "You know I never got your name"

You remarked, "That's because I didn't give it"

"You know my name, shouldn't I know yours?"

"You went into my car, into my office, without asking me for my name? That's on you"

"Fair. See you around"

Diego was smart so it didn't take him long to find your name. It was right on your office door anyways.

He came back to your office a few nights later in a rougher shape. He was lucky you lived right upstairs and could hear him banging on the front door.

You opened the door and saw him, "You do realize this is not a hospital right?"

Diego remarked, "Yeah, thanks,  Y/n"

"Oh so you can read. That's a good sign. Come on in"

Diego had some cuts and bruises, quite possibly some bruised ribs. If it wasn't the consequences of his own damn actions.

You got out the first aid kit and rubbing alcohol once more. This time you also got some ice packs.

He took off his shirt again and you put ice packs on his ribs. You used the rubbing alcohol to disinfect the cuts and put your silliest bandaids on him.

He smirked at the sight of your Elmo bandaids, "Thanks"

You smiled back at him,"You're welcome"

He watched you as you put the first aid supplies back where they belonged. You were in your pajamas which was just an oversized t-shirt and pajama pants. You would have preferred being dressed but Diego needed your help.

You came back over and sat down next to him on the floor, "Why did you come here? You could have just done this yourself"

Diego replied, "It's easier when someone else does it"

"You have a point there but why here? You've got quite a few siblings and there is this place called a hospital"

"I only really talk to Klaus and I wouldn't trust him with first aid"

"And let me guess, no insurance"

"Yeah. What about you? Why do you keep letting me in?" asked Diego.

You honestly answered, "Because I can tell you're a good person and I guess I'm trying to be a better one"

You did more than your fair share of morally grey things at the commission. Maybe that's why you became a PI as well, to help people, to be better.

Diego said, "From what I've seen, I'd say you're a great person"

You smiled, "Thanks"

"I should probably head out, it's pretty late"

"Or you could stay. I've got a pretty nice couch upstairs. And food"

You had your first kiss over breakfast the next morning. That night was the first of many Diego stayed over. It was the only night he spent on the couch.

You had yourself a smoking hot vigilante boyfriend but you also had a past you couldn't outrun.
