Friday, thank goodness. I only had one class for today—calculus class with Mr Fischbach. My mood wasn't supportive at that time, causing me to let out a sigh before I entered his class. I noticed he was checking the marks on the recent tests we had, I assumed. I tried not to let him see me so I went to one of the back seats, plugging in only one part of my headset, resting my head on the table before the class started.
Minutes passed, and more students filled up the class. None of the students in the program I chose wanted to be friends with me, we barely talked and got close. They only started chatting with me if it was related to school.
Perhaps, my position on being the loner and isolated had caused a rumor to blow around the faculty, hell probably the whole university. There was a rumor about me being in a relationship with Mr. Fischbach, all because he paid much more attention to me since this semester started. I was wondering if the other professors knew about this because most of them didn't care about the students' rumors.
Mr. Fischbach looked at his watch and got up. His voice across the room had triggered my instinct to turn off my headset and stretch my back,
"Morning, everyone. As you know, yesterday we had a test." He went to his desk and took the stack of papers,
"And to my surprise, only two people passed the test. Y/n and Lucy, congratulations on passing the test. The rest of you will be doing work to make your scores higher and reach the minimum scores to pass." He started giving out the test results to each student.
Once he reached my desk, he put down my test result. I saw his sticky note on my test, 'Congrats :) Hope my test doesn't stress you out. I've seen you being down lately in my class. I'm here if you need someone to talk with.' I wasn't the only one who got sticky notes on my test, the other students too but from what I had seen around me, they were mostly formulas they were supposed to use for the wrong answers they answered, perhaps because they were failing.
My ears perked when I heard the girls at the front starting to whisper while siding their eyes on me,
"Do you think they sleep with Mr. Fischbach just to get good scores?"
"Yeah, it's impossible for them to get it. They used to get average scores for Calculus." My anxiety was attacking me slightly but I tried not to care much about what they said.
Lucy looked at me after grinning to herself, possibly gloating about how good she was doing. She made her way to my desk and smiled, "I guess I'm not the only one who passed this time,"
"I rarely talk with you but didn't know you would be good at this subject," she continued. Lucy was one of those ambitious students from what I had seen. I heard from others about the number of times she had stabbed people in the back,
"Yeah, thanks. I guess." I held down the sticky note close to me, making sure other people wouldn't read it, including her.
Her curiosity was peeking, "What note did you get? Mine was just congratulations for doing hard work even though I didn't even try." She chuckled,
'There she is, bragging about herself again. I want to punch her face,' I thought to myself.
"The same as yours. I studied hard before the test so I'm pretty proud of myself." The only reason why I studied hard was so that he wouldn't give me an extra lesson with him,
"I see. Maybe, we can talk more often! We can be best buddies in Calculus. What could go wrong?" My guts were telling me that wasn't a good idea, they were telling me it was just a way for her to use me. So, I just smiled and nodded through her words after her loathing about herself. It was like a couple of minutes of it, I tried not to listen to her,
