Starting Anew

Chapter 1

A typical day of classes. Fall, orange leaves all over the ground, and a good cup of a pumpkin spice latte.Nothing can go wrong, right? WRONG! The moment I stepped into my dorm room, I see my shirtless boyfriend of almost 4 years shoving his tongue down my roommate's mouth! What the actual heck?! We were supposed to celebrate our 4 year anniversary TOMORROW! I run out of the room crying and not knowing where to go, so I go to the school's library. So I can be alone and forced to stay quiet. I decide to turn my phone back on, and I start to get all these messages from Axel. He's telling me how sorry he is and how much he loves me. I would believe him, but he cheated on me! Does he really believe that I'm going to let this slide? Doesn't he remember how my dad cheated on my mom? A few moments go by and I can't help but think about the almost 4 years that we had spent together. I mean we have been together since freshman year of high school. We applied to the same schools, and this was the only school that we both got into. Well...actually...this was the only school HE got into. I applied to schools in Arizona, Florida, California, and even Oklahoma! And they were really good schools, but I chose this school in our home state, Louisiana State University. I chose this school so he and I can be together. So we wouldn't have to do the long distance relationship thing, and stress each other out over time differences, and our schedules! I put my education on the line for him! At this point, all I'm seeing is red! Then I feel a tap on my shoulder, it's the librarian letting me know that the library is closing. Then I realize that I've been here for 5 hours! And I didn't even get to do my work! So I call up my best friend, Blair. She answers and I ask, "Hey bestie! Can I stay in your room tonight? My roommate has a 'friend' over." Blair can sense that I'm lying, "What happened? I can hear sadness in your voice. Did something happen today?" So, I confess, "I'll tell you when I get to your room. But I do need to grab some stuff of mine from my room. Can you come with me?" Blair agrees and I hang up and head over to our dorm hall.

Blair is waiting for me by my room. I say, "Hey" and she says, "I know something happened between you and Axel. He's been calling and texting me asking where you were and I covered for you saying that you went home to visit your mom." I tell her, "Thanks, and I'll explain when we get to your room. I just want some of my things from here. Just wait right here by the door."

I go in the room and I start to pack a good bit of clothes. My roommate, Chanel, says to me, "I know why you wanted to keep him to yourself Sydney. He's wonderful in bed. Axel makes me feel more of a woman than any other man I've been with." I interrupt her mid sentence, "And how many men have you been with? Too many to even compare? You know what, have Axel. If he can be easily persuaded to sleep with you, then maybe he wasn't meant for me. I hope you two are happy together." She says, "I don't want him, I just wanted to sleep with him. One and done. Hit it and quit it. Besides, it wasn't the first time we slept together." I couldn't control myself, and I just slapped her across the face. And that's when Blair had to step in before it got out of hand.

Blair asks me, "What happened? And I mean between you and Axel. Not what just happened in your room with that skank." So I tell her how I caught Axel tongue deep in her throat, and how I had my suspicions of him cheating but wasn't able to prove it...until today. I told her things are over, and I'm ready for finals in 2 weeks. Then I had a thought, just a thought... "Hey Blair..what if I were to apply to another school? Far away from here." She says, "Go for it! I think it'll be the best thing for you! Especially if it's going to give you an opportunity to be away from Axel and Chanel. I know you'll get into whatever school you apply too!!!" I ask her, "How does an acceptance letter from UCLA sound?" Blair snatches the acceptance letter from me and reads it to herself. She screams, "DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS FOR YOU?!!! You've been talking about going to California ever since we met!! OH MY GOSH!! This is exciting!!" I giggle and thank her, then I say,  "You know, I did worry about how I was going to tell Axel. But since I'm graduating early and we just broke up, it worked out for me in the end."
