"Vi, time to go"

Vivian hears her mother call from downstairs. It's time, finally. She had just finished styling her hair, it was actually quite simple. Most of her hair was down, except the two little ponytails tied at the top of her head. Before leaving her room she quickly examines herself in the mirror.
"You can do this Vivian"
She tells herself. She wasn't scared of anything that was about to come, the only fear on her mind was her name being drawn from the reaping bowl but not the way the other children from the poorer districts feared. The fact being, district 2 trains for these games every chance they get and there are at least 10 volunteers for both genders each year. If her name is picked and someone volunteers, which would of course without a doubt happen, she is immediately ripped of the chance of becoming a tribute but the reminder that since it's her first year and the slip with her name is only entered in once calms her and with that she is out of her room and heading down the stairs.

She is greated by her mother, father and her 10year old sister Leontina.

"Ready to go kid?"

Arthur asks.

"Of course"

"Okay than, we better head out"

"Dad?"

Leontina whispers. I look down at her and see an empty look on her face but I could sense some sadness by looking her in the eyes.

"What is is honey?"

"Can I... um... can I talk to Vivi for a minute?"

"Leontina, we really have to get going, the reaping is about to start"

"Please? It will only be a minute"

"Okay... okay sure but make it quick and meet us outside"

With that their mother and father leave the house and shut the door behind them, giving the girls some privacy to talk.

"What is it Lea?"

Vivian asks her little sister with a curious look.

"You're not actually going to do it, are you? You know, volunteer."

"Lea, I have to, I want to be the one to bring pride to our district, besides when I win, it would be a great opportunity to get back at Aster for picking on us all this time."

"Vivi, I know you're smart, brave and good with knives but there will be 24 of you and you're only 12, I'm pretty sure so many others will be older and more strongly built than you are. I can't tell you what to do, you're the big sister but you're my only sister and I don't want to see you die on that screen, that's all."

Leontina's head slightly drops and suddenly she's out of the house.
Vivian's heart dropped for a second, she certainly didn't except these words from a 10 year old. What if she was right, maybe this wasn't the best idea she had... NO! She wanted to do this and she will but her sister won't watch her die. She'll watch her come home in a few weeks and prove that she isn't just some small, weak girl.

The walk to the reaping took about 5 minutes. A big group of boys and girls around of the age 16 to 18 ran past her laughing and chatting in the process. Well someone is certainly excited. She was finally arrived at the justice building of 2. The place was crowded and just as she was looking for where to stand her father pulls her aside.

"Vivian, your sister and mother are very worried and so am I, just... try to still think about it ok? But hey, I'm not stopping you, I know you've got it in you, do what you think is best"

She knew what was best. For her it was becoming a tribute.

"Ok kiddo, I'll either see you after the Reaping ceremony or we'll come to say goodbye."
