Chapter 1

I can't lose anyone else. I've lost so much in the past year. After my mom, my sister Allison, and Aiden passed I can't bare to see another one of my friends leave me. I will do anything to protect the ones I love. Anything.

After my dad left for France when Allison died, I decided to stay in Beacon Hills and help Scott and the pack. I swore to myself to always go by Allison's code. I'm technically a hunter because it runs in the family, but I am just starting to learn the basics. Allison and I are very much alike when it comes to choice of weapon. The crossbow. I decided to teach myself to fight like a hunter because being around Scott and the others I feel useless. For example Scott, Stiles, Kira, Lydia, and Malia just left for Mexico to find Derek. When I asked if I could tag along they said I should stay back because they don't want to see me hurt. News Flash! "I can take care of myself". Just thinking those words reminds me of Allison.

I told Lydia to text me and keep me updated so I don't feel out of the loop. She texted me that their going to retrieve Derek at La Iglesia. La Iglesia? That old church. I read about that in my History class. Why would Derek be there?

Lexi- Why would Derek be there?

Lydia- Were not sure I'll text you as soon as we find him.

I set my phone down and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. When I came back my phone buzzed.

Lydia- We have a problem

Lexi- What happened? Is Derek okay?

Lydia- He's fine, but I have no clue what happened to him. We're leaving Mexico. Meet us at the Animal Clinic in 4 hours.

Lexi- Okay see you then. Be safe.

I'm waiting outside the Animal Clinic waiting for Lydia and the others.

When they pulled into the drive way they all got out of the Jeep. "Where's Derek?", I asked. Everyone looked at each other then Scott carried a 17 year old unconscious boy out of the car. "So that's what happened? How is that even possible?! Can we change him back?". I was asking all these questions on the way inside, and then looked to Deaton for answers. He looked down at Derek and all he said was "Wow".

"Wow? Wow as in "I've seen this before and I know exactly what to do" kind of wow? Cause that's the kind of wow we were hoping for." Stiles said.

"I think you might be overestimating my abilities", Deaton replied.

We all stared at Derek in silence, until Scott spoke up.

"Do you think this is permanent?", Scott asked.

"I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate. This is well beyond my experience", he confessed. I started to feel very worried because Derek was like an older brother to me. Always being there for me and helping me when i'm down. All of a sudden I felt like I was going to have a panic attack or something. I started breathing heavily and Lydia noticed and walked towards me. "Here I'll drive you home". She put her hand on my shoulder and walked me to her car and drove me home.

She parked the car in the drive way and looked at her phone. Then she turned towards me. "I have to get back to the animal Clinic. Deaton needs someone to watch Derek".

"But isn't it a school night. Maybe I should come with you and make sure-", before I could finish she cut me off. "My grades are fine, also this is your first year of high school and I don't think you want to make a bad impression", she smiled at me. I just nodded and gave her a quick hug before hopping out of the car to my apartment. All I could think about that night was what would my first day of school be like, and hopefully it's not interrupted by any supernatural problems.

Little did I know I was wrong.
