The days passed in a blur.

It seemed like they had all arrived in Paris just yesterday, yet here they were, already on the third day. The excitement in the air was palpable-Pratishtha's birthday had finally arrived, and everyone around her buzzed with anticipation. Everyone except her, that is.

From the moment she woke up, the mansion was alive with activity. The faint sounds of laughter, hushed whispers, and hurried footsteps seeped through the walls of her room, but she was quite firmly told to stay put. Whenever she tried to step out, someone would rush in, gently pushing her back with a playful smile. "Not yet, Prati," they'd say, "You have to wait a little longer!"

The evening of their arrival had been a lethargic one. After the long, exhausting journey to the mansion, everyone had been too tired to explore the city. They had decided, almost unanimously, to spend the evening indoors, resting and recharging. Pratishtha had hoped that would mean a quiet evening to herself, maybe even a moment to catch up with Abhimanyu. But that hadn't happened.

By the time she'd freshened up and come downstairs, a sort of collective laziness had taken over, and they all lounged around, talking and laughing, but somehow, she never got the chance to pull Abhimanyu aside. He seemed occupied, caught up in conversations, tasks, and something quite interesting on his phone and she couldn't find the right moment.

Then yesterday, she had been practically confined to her room. The excuse was that everyone wanted to surprise her, to make her birthday special. And sure, the idea was sweet, but being locked away, not allowed to peek at any of the preparations, was starting to get on her nerves, well she was never a patient girl. Every request she made was fulfilled within the confines of the four walls-meals, snacks, drinks, anything she asked for was promptly delivered by one of Abhimanyu's cousins or her siblings, each of them grinning like they were in on the world's best-kept secret.

But this morning, as the clock ticked on, Pratishtha found herself feeling more trapped than excited. The entire mansion seemed to be wrapped up in some elaborate plan she wasn't privy to, and while she appreciated the effort, the whole thing was starting to feel a bit overwhelming. She wasn't the type to enjoy big celebrations, and the thought of what awaited her outside that door-a grand party, guests she'd have to entertain, the endless chatter, and the forced smiles for photos-made her stomach twist with anxiety.
