In an attempt to move forward, i threw myself into life, trying to burry the pain of the past. It was around this time that my niece, Hera, became a beacon of light in my life. She was my brother's daughter, abandoned by her mother when she was just 15 days old. We took her in and loved her as my own. Hera was my world, and even after i joined the military, I made sure to stay connected with her. She was like a daughter to me, and every time i saw her or her voice, it brought a sende of peace and purpose to my life.
