Falling. Falling. You're falling.
Why are you falling? You turn your head from where it rests upon a cloud of air, your body lowering itself at a slow and calming pace. You wonder if the other students are going through this as well, and if it's as pleasant a feeling to them as it is to you, or if it rather rings a bell of alarm. You bring a hand to your cheek. feeling the touch of warmth hitting warmth. So it seems the simulation processes body heat, just as it was programmed to. Everything is going to plan as of now, at least.
Part of you yearns to stretch your fingers up, to claw at the force you're falling from. There's a small part of you that's undeniably scared, that's unsure of whether or not this whole idea is going to work. It pulses through your veins, clutching at your heart and making your eyes open wider. You try to remember that you're not alone, that the remnants besides you will be feeling the same. You try to remember your purpose, the reason why you're here, and to nudge the fact that given your position you don't have time to be fearful, but all it does is cause the feeling to dull, instead enveloping you in a feeling of numb.
You kick your legs in a swinging motion, uselessly trying to float upwards in a defiance of gravity. It doesn't work, and you wonder for how long you'll be stuck here. You don't remember being told this would happen. Now that you think about it, there's a lot you don't remember. The numbness inside you calls for you to succumb, to close your eyes and to allow yourself to drift off. You do as it ushers you too, curls flying behind you in an afro as you're left wondering. How long will it be before you can live a life without fear? The fear of despair, of the parallel to the title you've been christened, to the same thing you watched the world around you fall a victim to.
You refuse to let the feeling decide your fate, your head leaning back as your mind starts to rest. You will do your duty. You will return hope and live to watch it spread. You will save the causes of despair, and bring mercy to the remnants, despite their past and all they've ruined. You will be their saviour, as you were saved before.
Your pledge to yourself, to society and to them. You let it burn in your heart as you're brought to Jabberwock island.
