A few days had passed since the tea incident. I was still feeling on edge and it was starting to show at work. I was colder than my usual self towards the parents and Marjorie had been the first to notice. I was sitting at my desk when the nursery manager looked up towards me. I could see her fidgeting, trying to say something, a few seconds passed before she finaly said

''Autumn, you all right my love? ''

I looked up from my computer and gave her a annoyed look.

''It's just that you seem more... more on edge than usual. Did something happen? ''

I let out a long sigh and rolled my eyes. Just a few months ago she would have never asked, probably to scared that I would snap at her. But now she had become a really good friend and I had started to open un to her about my past. I took a few more seconds before opening up my mouth to speak.

''Yes... something did happen a few days ago, but it has nothing to do with work. ''

''Oh, okay, good then. Well, no I mean not good that something did happen but good that it has nothing to do with work. Argh, you know what I mean. ''

She said leaning back in her chair. We sat in silence for a couple minutes both returning to our work. I could still see her fidgeting, she kept looking at me every few seconds. I rolled my eyes again and looked at her.

''What Marjorie? ''

''Do.. you want to talk about it?'' She slowly said. Yes she had become my friend, but she was still scared to ask about my private life. I crossed my arms against my chest and took a deep breath. I was actually considering talking to her. She kept looking at me with the most gentle eyes, not trying to push me. She gave me a small smile ''It's okay if you don't but maybe I could help you''

I closed my eyes trying to find the words. I did want to talk about it with her, but deep down inside I was scared that she would think it was a stupid thing and think nothing about it. My mind was racing, and I could feel my heart beating faster. I got up and went to closed the office door so no one could hear us. I sat back down and started talking. I told her everything, me breaking the cup and almost breaking down because of it. I could see the horror in her eyes the more I kept talking. I also told her why I had such an intense reaction.

''Autumn...im so sorry, I knew you had a terrible childhood but I never thought it was that bad.'' I shooked my head, and rolled my eyes ''That's not even the worst of it...'' I said under my breath. ''Still, i'm so sorry...'' She said again.

I was about to say something else when I heard a knock at the door. I turned around to look and couldn't help but smile when I saw Winter standing at the door. I waved him in and waited for him to enter the office.

"My sweet" he said "I'm on my break and I wanted to see if you had time to go grab a coffee?"

I gave a look at Marjorie who was already nodding.

"I'm coming my sweet."  I said while grabbing my things. I looked back at Marjorie and gave her a smile. It was my way of saying thank you to her.
