scarlett and joao grew up as best friends; their parents were best friends growing up so naturally they'd want their children to grow up as friends to keep their legacy alive. the two families had grown close and got a beach house for them to all stay at during the summer, joao and scarlett were inseparable during the whole summer but as they grew older they just drifted apart but not for any specific reasons.
the two families kept the yearly summer traditions of visiting the beach house going although a lot of them lived really far away now, they tried their hardest to keep the laces tied.
most of joao's family lived back in portugal and scarlett's lived in england, scarlett and joao resided in barcelona, spain. although the beach house was located in england, everyone made an effort to visit traditionally.
growing up, scarlett was aware that joao had always dreamed of being a professional football player and when he had finally achieved his dream he was really happy at first but he had less and less time for her but she didn't mind it as long as he was happy.
that was until he wasn't.
but it was all okay again because then his happiness returned; at the one and only fc barcelona.

scarlett rested her head against the backseat window of her parent's car, the airpods in her ears blasted her favorite playlist.
she glared out the window, watching as her parents drove by the beach; meaning they were getting closer to the beach house.
a soft yawn escaped scarlett's lips as she watched multiple groups of teenagers surfing or just building cute little sand castles by the tide.
her thoughts overtook her head before her father took a sharp turn, causing scarlett to hit her head on the window; resulting in an "oomph" from her.
"jesus, ever learn to drive a car?" scarlett's mom scoffed, playfully slapping her dad's arm as he drove.
scarlett took out one of her airpods and placed in back into the case, "you might wanna let him drive, mama.."
scarlett's dad nodded in agreement as he pulled into the driveway of the beach house, the felix family car had already arrived.
the hartley girl ran her fingers through her hair before speaking, "you think joao's here this year?" she said in a hushed tone.
her mother's head turned to face her, "yeah, he is."
"how are you so sure?" scarlett asked, her head tilting in curiosity.
her mother explained how she had spoken to carla felix during the car ride while they unloaded their bags from the car.

scarlett's backpack hung off one shoulder as she walked through the front door behind her parents who shamelessly took their time gazing over all the old photos hung on up the walls, all the framed pictures from not only scarlett's childhood but theirs too.
no matter how many times they've seen any of those photos, they still admired them every chance they could.
scarlett scrunched her nose when her eyes landed on a photo of joao with his ex-girlfriend who had cheated on him not once, not twice but three times. and he's still forgiven her, what an idiot .
"aw, margarida was always so sweet," scarlett's mom smiled at the photo when she noticed her daughter eyeing it weirdly.
the brunette girl blinked, "no she wasn't. she was a slutty whore."
hugo, joao's brother chimed in as he walked into the hallway, "oh my god, are we talking about magui?"
"yes!!" scarlett and her dad grinned simultaneously.
"no," her mom said firmly at the same time as they both had spoken.

after greeting carlos and carla, scarlett made her way upstairs to her bedroom and tossed her backpack onto her bed which was across from joao's bed. hugo had his own room for some reason. lucky ass.

a few hours had passed and scarlett, hugo, carlos sequeira and her dad were all playing uno together while carla and her mom had gone out somewhere and refused to take her along with them.
"what does the blank card mean?" hugo scrunched his nose at the card his dad placed down.
scarlett grinned, "it means you have to draw eight cards." she said, a mocking tone in her voice.
hugo's eyes widened in disbelief, "what the hell, dad?! this is practically child abuse." he whined like a child.
just as he leaned over to draw the cards, joao barged into the living room, out of breath and dirty. he had his shirt off, torso covered in mud as he tried to catch his breath. joao had a football at his toes, he was wearing sandals and they were covered in dirt and sand.
"where were you all day?" hugo asked as his eyes scanned over joao's toned body in disgust.
joao took his flip flops off and clutched the wet shirt in his hands as he explained that he was playing football with a bunch of kids on the beach.
"so why are you muddy?" scarlett scrunched her nose at him as her eyes also scanned over the felix boy in disapproval.
the barcelona player rolled his eyes, huffing dramatically, "floki wanted to play in the dirt so i played with him."
scarlett's eyes widened, "you brought floki?!" she squealed excitedly; causing joao to nod, the corners of his lips curling up into a soft smile.
