Amelia Wallflower has never seemed to live without adversity. From her appearance to how she thought, it was never enough.
Love never seemed to work out either.
She clung, hoped endlessly that a man would love her like she wanted. Or at least feel something other than tolerated. She spent her early teenage years wishing for a storybook Prince to help her out of her misery. However, she never seemed to feel anything or even love the men she chased. She thought this was normal, that when she lost her virginity to a man, she would love him and he would love her.
So, on her sixteenth birthday, she decided it was time to give it up to her current boyfriend, Mathew Dennison. It didn't work, she didn't love him, she didn't even feel attracted to him. She just loved the idea of him being hers.
She often fantasized about her "magical" first time and how it would be a night of love and endless romance. But as she lay in her childhood bed, beneath a boy she didn't even love, she realized she might never love a boy.
Throughout her teenage years, she'd see her classmates and friends kiss their boyfriends and go on dates with them, thinking about how much she wished she enjoyed those activities. Maybe she was just... weird? Different. Maybe she just wasn't meant to love a boy.
As she grew older, she began to believe that maybe all the girls in her friend group and life were lying. They must've all been liars. How else could they stand within five feet of a man and not cringe? How else could they allow any man to touch them or kiss them? It must've all been pretend.
With that notion set in her mind, she got married to Joseph Samuels after she was done with high school. Joseph came from a prestigious family and he was a lawyer. She figured if her modeling career ever plummeted, he could break the fall. He was a staggering eight years older than she was, but nobody except her aunt, Millie and father batted an eye about it.
Amelia lived in London until she was sixteen and received a modeling contract for New York. Her aunt so graciously took her in and raised her until she was eighteen.
She spend the remaining two years of her childhood living in Manhattan with her aunt. Her aunt was nothing like her mother. While her mother was bossy and a control freak, aunt Millie allowed Amelia to do a lot of what she wanted, despite the modeling job along with school.
Now, of course, she's been married to Joseph since she was eighteen and he was twenty-six. They live in a penthouse apartment, actually just a couple floors below Amelia's aunt. Amelia payed for the penthouse with her modeling fortune and Joseph contributes... sometimes. But nobody really had to know that, at least for Joseph's sake.
