Chapter 2: "Galentines" Day

February 14th, 2020

A/n: can we just pretend all these people live in New York for the sake of the plot? 🙈

On Sunday morning, Amelia woke to a call from her best friend, Selena. The brunette stretched her arm over the sheets, flailing around to find her phone without taking her head off the pillow.

She didn't want to talk to anyone right now. She wanted to wallow in her own self-pity and hated everything she's done in life up to this point.

With a soft groan, she sits up and finds her phone all the way across the bed, just out of her reach. She reluctantly presses the device to her ear after pressing 'accept'.

"Hey, Sel... why are you calling so early?" The brunette wondered, stretching as she put the call on speakerphone. She set the phone atop some blankets next to her.

"Mia, it's two o'clock in the afternoon..." Amelia could hear the other brunette sigh on the other line. She could also hear faint piano playing in the background and couldn't help but have her own interest piqued.

"Selena didn't play Piano, and she certainly wouldn't just have classical music playing in her own house." She thought to herself, knowing Selena usually hated classical music. She found herself looking over at the clock on her bedside. It read 2:16.

"Damn... I slept for like sixteen hours... Anyway, where are you, Sel?" The younger girl questioned, waking up more and more as seconds passed.

"I'm uh... at a friends house- Tay could you loosen up on the piano for a few minutes?" She heard Selena yell a bit on the last part. Who was 'Tay'? Was she dating a guy named Taylor or something? Whatever, it didn't matter right now.

Selena cleared her throat before continuing.

"Anyway, I needed to ask if you and Joseph were doing anything tonight? Gigi and a few of our other friends wanted to have a little Galentines day at my friend's house. Can you join us? I promise it'll be fun! And I know you and Joseph don't usually do anything for Valentine's Day..."

Amelia paused. She hadn't thought of Joseph since last night and now all the memories were kicking in at full force. As she felt her heart ache, she figured maybe it would be a good opportunity to go out with friends for a bit.

"Uhm... sure, Sel. My car is in the shop right now, so could you pick me up from my aunt's house? If not I'll just get an Uber or something!" She responded as cheerful as possible, somewhat happy to have something to look forward to but also wanting to mask her real feelings.

"Oh, yeah! Of course! I'll pick you up at four. But, fair warning, I'm gonna have a friend with me. Also, the Galentines day is happening at Blake's" Selena adds as the piano playing in the background stops.

"Okay! I'll see you then! Bye, Sel!" Amelia responded as gleefully as possible. "Bye, Mia!" Selena hung up the phone and Amelia let her body fall back onto the bed.

She lay there for an hour before deciding to get ready.

Taylor rolled her eyes when Selena told her to quiet down. It wasn't her fault her heart had so many emotions just begging to be let out in song form. With a small sigh, she gets up from her piano bench to sit with Selena on the couch.

Taylor didn't want to see anyone, let alone come to a Galentines day with her friends. It only reminded her of the love she just lost. Selena wasn't one to let up, though. She was persistent about the blonde going whether she liked it or not.

"So, you invited another person to Galentines Day?" Taylor asked the brunette with a bit of hesitation. Selena had previously scolded her gently for even suggesting that they keep the list small. Though Blake didn't care, Taylor didn't really wanna be near a lot of people at once. Especially not when she hasn't seen a person since she last saw Joe a week ago. Selena was truly heaven sent, unbeknownst to Taylor.

"Yes, it's just one of my friends from my early acting days... her name is Amelia and she's nice. I promise she's not weird at all. She doesn't even listen to your music, oddly enough" Selena chuckled softly. She knew Amelia seemed like the type to enjoy stereotypical pop, but she just didn't for some reason.

Taylor's eyes widen slightly, noting that whoever Amelia was, she probably wouldn't go crazy and fangirl over everyone. She was grateful, actually.

"Oh... that's actually... refreshing" Taylor replied, her tone one of relief. Some artists were offended when someone said they didn't like their music, not Taylor, though. It was nice to know someone wasn't going to give her special treatment because of some songs she wrote.

Selena just smiled at the blonde, hoping that things were getting better at the sound of Taylor's acceptance.

Amelia threw on a floral mid-thigh length dress, just for the Spring factor of the holiday. She left her hair down in a half-up-half-down ponytail, which reminded her of Ariana Grande. When she looked at herself in the mirror, she felt a little pretty. Pretty was an understatement for how she truly looked, but it's what she believed as she slipped on a pair of dolly heels and threw her purse over her shoulder.

"Aunt, I'm heading out with Selena for a bit. I'll see you tonight, yeah?" She smiled softly as she passed her aunt on the way to the door, who was sitting at the kitchen island and eating what looked like sushi.

"I'll see you soon, Mia. Stay safe!" Millie chortled, happy her niece wasn't going to wallow in her room because of whatever marital issues were happening.

Selena drives a black SUV with tinted windows, her blonde confidant in the passenger seat. She texts Amelia to come outside as the two drive to the entrance of the apartment building.

A mere two minutes later, Amelia walks out into the cool spring weather of New York City, smiling when she spots the "Unsuspicious" vehicle, knowing it contained Selena. She happily skipped, yes, in heels, to the car and opened the back seat door before sliding in without hesitation.

"Hey, Sel! Happy Valentine's Day!" She genuinely was happy and meeting with Selena had made her forget why she couldn't go home.

The older brunette turned around to get a good look at her friend before whistling teasingly. "Oooh! You look gorgeous, babe!" She giggled, admiring Amelia.

Selena wore a beige turtleneck sweater with some semi-casual-formal slacks. It was definitely plain, but it suited Selena to a tee.

"Thank you! You look amazing as well!" Amelia giggled back, her British accent not going unnoticed by the blonde in the passenger seat. Taylor cleared her throat, turning to look at Selena, that's when Amelia caught a glimpse of her in the review mirror.

It was as if time stopped.

Amelia's breath caught in her throat, she thought she must've been dreaming. When she caught a glimpse of her golden blonde hair and striking blue eyes through the mirror, she was appalled by her beauty.

Taylor saw the younger girl's enchanting brown eyes and full lips and her breath stopped as well. She'd seen Amelia on a few magazine covers, but they didn't do her any justice for her real beauty.

"Oh, uhm... Ami, this is Taylor! Taylor, this is Amelia" Selena thought the stares between the two girls through the mirrors were of tension, of some type of awkwardness.

Oh, how wrong she was...
