"We have to find Annabeth" I said, I looked from Lady Artemis and then back down the cliffside. "She's gone because of your hunters" I accused. I narrowed my eyes as Zoe made a low sound in her throat, she stomped close to me, our foreheads almost touching.
"How dare you disrespect Lady Artemis?" She snapped.
"It is quite alright Zoe, anger is a very real emotion" Artemis said.
I looked down at Zoe, she was a good two inches shorter than me. "You don't scare me Zoe" I snarled. "You never have,"
"I cannot tell if that is arrogance or foolishness"
"Both perhaps" I said with a shrug of my shoulders.
"You have to keep your cool Vic," Thalia said, she put her hand and my shoulder and squeezed it firmly. "The lady Artemis would not be pleased if you killed Zoe, or even harmed her I guess"
"Whoa" Bianca said. "Hold up. Time out"
Everybody looked at her. She pointed her finger at all of us in turn. She shook her head at me and then moved on, trying to connect the dots. "Who . . . are all of you people?"
Artemis's expression softened. "It might be a better question, my dear girl, to ask who are you? Who are your parents?"
Bianca glanced nervously at her brother, who was still staring in awe at Artemis.
"Our parents are dead," Bianca said. "We're orphans. There's a bank trust that pays for our school, but . . ."
She faltered, everyone looked at her like they didn't believe her. I tried to keep in mind that the gods lie. She could very well have been told both her parents were killed.
"What!?" She demanded. "I'm telling the truth!"
"You're a halfblood" Zoe said, her accent stronger than ever. "One of thy parents were moral, the other olympian"
"An olympian . . .athlete?"
"No," Zoe said. "One of the gods"
"Cool!" Nico said.
"No!" Bianca's voice quavered. "This is not cool!"
Nico danced around. "Does Zeus really have lightning bolts that do six-hundred damage? Does he get extra movement points for-"
"Nico shut up!" She covered her face with her hands. "This is not your stupid mythomagic game"
I stepped over to her, feeling sympathy, I was raised as a demigod. Bianca wasn't. I pulled her in, she covered her eyes and her ears and just shook against me as I tried to soothe her.
"I know, I know." I said hushed. "But they are real. They come down and have children with mortals, their lives-" My voice broke on me as I looked down the cliff Annabeth vanished past. "Their lives are dangerous, They're lucky they live to your age,"
"Like the girl, the girl who fell?" Bianca asked.
I turned my head away and felt my jaw twitch. Artemis looked at me pained.
"Do not despair for Annabeth," The goddess said. I let go of Bianca and looked around at everyone. Thalia was looking at the ground angry, her jaw twitching just as I felt mine. Percy had his hands in his jean pockets and was rocking back and forth on his heels. "She was a brave maiden, if she can be found I will find her"
"Let me look for her," I said. "I can fly, I can do it all, I will do whatever it takes. Just let me look for her" I pleaded.
"She's gone, can't you sense out, Sister? Some magic is at work. I do not know exactly how or why but she has vanished."
Nobody could stop me if I wanted to. I could jump over that cliff and begin my search before anyone could take a hostile step towards me. But, I couldn't help but feel different. Artemis was right, Annabeth's presence was gone.
"Oo!" Nico raised his hand. "What about Dr. Thorn? It was awesome how you shot him with arrows! Is he dead?"
"He was a manticore," Artemis said. "Hopefully he is destroyed for now, but monsters never truly die. They re-form over and over again, and they must be haunted when they do"
"Or they'll hunt us," Thalia said.
Bianca shivered. "That explains . . .Nico, you remember last summer, those guys who tried to attack us in the alley in D.C.?"
"And the bus driver? The one with the ram horns?" NIco said. "I told you that was real"
"That's why Grover has been watching you," Percy said, smiling at me. "To keep you safe, if you turned out ot be demigods"
"Grover?" Bianca said. "You're a demigod?"
"Well, a satyr actually" He kicked off his shoes and displayed his goat hooves. Poor Bianca, I thought she was going to faint right there"
"Grover put your shoes back on" Thalia scolded with a small smile on her face. "She's gonna have a heart attack"
"Hey! My hooves are clean"
"Oh I'm sure G-Man" I said, grabbing his shoes and handing them to him. He rolled his eyes at me and began to put them on.
"Bianca," Percy said. "We came here to help you. You and Nico need training to survive. Dr. Thorn won't be the last monster you meet. You need to come back to camp"
"Camp?" She asked.
"Camp Half-Blood, It's a home for demigods, who don't have homes to go back to, or just a summer camp" I said, brushing a piece of hair out of her face. She smiled at me, her eyes were still filled with confusion, but I'm glad I could make her laugh.
"There is another option," Zoe said.
"No there isn't!" Thalia and I snarled at the same time. I curled my lips as I remembered.
