Chapter 2 Hate

   "Oh hey mom" I say while hiding my book behind my back " There you are I was looking for you everywhere. And what are doing in the abandoned section of the library you know it's  unsafe" I mom said with a worried and angry expression

"I'm sorry, I just came here to find a book to read since there was no other interesting books in the other side of the library" I said with a sarcastic tone "Well I came here to fetch you to tell you dinner is ready." "Oh I'll be there in a sec-" " Oh and your brothers here as well" my mom said cutting me off. Ugh what is he doing here.

I went to my my room to hide the book and head down stairs where my parents, my little sister Elodie and..... my brother Jace are waiting, it's not like I hate my brother it's just that he gets all the attention since he got accepted in The School of All Magic Academy which is the most prestigious school in the world he's always smarter than me and I  always  hate being second to everything I do.

"Hey sis I missed you" my brother said with a wide smile "I missed you too" I say while hugging him despite being the favorite child my brother was always there for me and Elodie.

"Come sit" he says gesturing to the chair next to his "So son how are your studies going" my father asked of course he only cares about our grades and how we're doing at school

"Well it's going good, I'm still top of my class so..... Yeah" my  brother said weakly,  I gave my mom a quick glance "Enough about school, what about you son how are you doing I suppose the ride here isn't easy since you live across the world" 

"Well it was okay I guess but we did make a quick stop at the town of Mermaidia so I can get you guys some souvenirs"

"Oh souvenirs where" my sister said excitedly,

"There upstairs I'll give them to you after dinner" my brother smiled as he continued eating his food

"So Elle my dear how 'bout you how are your studies going" my father asked "Well there doing great like Jace I'm also top of my class" I say "Very well keep it up" as suspected  "Oh um I'm kinda full so I'll just go back to my room I still have to pack for school
tomorrow " i say while getting up "Okay good night" my mom said all smiley "Good night everyone, Father, and it was nice seeing you again Jace I'll see my souvenir tomorrow" I say heading up the stairs.

I was in my room reading Merlin's journal it looks like Merlin was studying portals to get to the Elf realm which is impossible since that realm is sealed off from the rest of the world but it's still part of Etheria. I was about to flip the page when there was a slight knock on my door "Jace what are you doing here" I say quickly putting the book under the pillow I was laying onto "Oh didn't know you were reading I'll just come back later I know you like to read in peace, so"

"Wait no it's okay" I  say before he could touch the doorknob "I came here to give you this" he says while handing me a box , I opened the book and saw "A spell book not just any spell book the first book of spell, wha-how did even get this" I say totally speechless "Well father gave me this when I was your age so I figured it's your turn to hold the possession of this book" he says happily "Thank you, thank you you don't know how much this means to me" I say while hugging me tightly "Your welcome now can you stop hugging me, your crushing me" he says "Oh sorry" I say while letting him go.

"Are you sure dad's okay you giving me this?"
"Uh yeah why wouldn't he be"
"Because dad thinks I'm not ready enough for this book" I said, which is true ever since when we were kids dad always thinks I'm not ready for anything.

"You know that's not true" he say chuckling "Oh common you've always been the favorite child and your heir to the throne"
"You know that's not what I want, I never wanted to be crown prince I just became it, because I'm oldest I'm the one who always have bear the burden so you wouldn't have to" he says with a sad look on his face.

I've never seen him like this before.
