"Hey Mama," Chase greets his mother on the other side of the screen.
"Malachi, how is my boy?" His mother, Meredith, asks. Malachi was the name she had planned for her son since she was a little girl inspired by the book in the Bible. But during Meredith's pregnancy her husband's best friend, Chase, passed away and in honor of his non biological brother Jakob Bruno named his first child Chase Malachi Bruno.
"I'm doing great, Mama. How are you? How are things over there?" He asks as his mom finally sets down the laptop so that he can see her whole face.
"Oh, you know, good as always. Your sister is being her teenage self and your father thinks he is a professional golfer. But I manage to keep myself busy when I'm alone. Though I do miss my oldest son quite often, how is he?"
"He is busy but happy," he admits with a small smile.
"You seem tired. Your eyes don't sparkle with excitement anymore. You know you can always come home, Malachi. You achieved your dreams and you can come play over here," his mom pleads with her son.
"You know I can't, Mama, I've come to far to give up," he sighs.
"You know at the end of the day it's not about the destination but the journey. And also the people that you bring along, that's what is important."
"I know. But I have a great team. I have my roomie and I play with my idols, Mama. How much better can it get?" He tells her.
"You could actually be happy. You could find a nice girl and travel during your off time. You saw what happened to Leo and his model, she changed him for the better and he's happier than ever. I know you don't want to think about it, but if they decide to become serious he will move out and live with her. Then what?"
"He would tell me," Chase says with furrowed brows, he hated thinking about change. "Plus I don't have time. You know this Mama. Once the season is over, we are moving on to EuroCup and just like that preseason starts up again."
"Weren't you just trying to convince me you're happy?"
"I am happy, Mama. Football makes me happy."
"I know it does, Baby. But you won't have it forever, remember that."
Before Chase could reply his mother's attention was pulled away from the laptop and a few seconds later a blonde girl could be seen in the background.
"Malachi!" Francesca cheers as she spots him.
"Frankie!" Chase greets his younger sister. "How's school?"
"Terrible. Please come save me, Mal."
"No can do, Frank. You are almost done."
