LETTERS I

September 1st, 1971,

Dear Mum and Dad,

I'M A GRYFFINDOR!

So is James and Peter, they even share a dorm! I was so nervous to be sorted because James said you might as well go back home if you're not Gryffindor. Peter was much more nervous than me, he was shaking and wobbling all over the place the hat almost fell off of his head! It took him so long to get sorted, he says the hat almost gave him a different house, but he won't say which one. Weird. The feast was amazing!! Not as good as your cooking Mum, but a close second! I ate so much I don't think I can eat for another week.

I've made 3 friends already, and we all share a dorm. One of them is called Lily Evans, she's a muggle but already knows more about magic than everyone else, she's also ginger like me! I also made a friend called Marlene McKinnon, we sat next to each other during the feast and apparently Hogwarts has tons of secret rooms so we're going to look for them tomorrow. The third friend I made is called Alice Fortescue, her uncle is Florean Fortescue, who owns the ice cream parlour in Diagonal Alley, how wicked is that!

I've unpacked some of my things and lessons begin tomorrow. I have potions first. Being in Gryffindor, thankfully my new friends, Pete and James are all in the same lessons as me. I hope we find our classes easy enough, Hogwarts is so big but we have maps to help us.

I have to go to bed now, I miss you so much, goodnight!

P.S. James snuck Pippin into his suitcase (Mrs Potter charmed it so he could fit all of his things in so Pippin fit in perfectly) so you don't have to worry about him anymore! He stays in my dorm and we take him on walks after curfew under James' invisibility cloak and let him hunt too!

October 31st 1971,

Dear Mum and Dad,

Can you believe me and Pete have been friends with James for over a year? It feels like I've known him my whole life! The seventh years threw a Halloween party but third years and under weren't invited so me, Marlene and Lily went to Pete and James' dorm to have our own Halloween Party. It took a lot to convince Lily, we tried to convince Alice too but she said she wasn't feeling well. I finally met Pete and James' friends/dorm mates, I wish I had met them sooner but I've been busy with my own friends. One of them is called Remus Lupin, he has these cool scars all over him, he doesn't like to talk about them but I think they look cool, he says they look stupid but I disagree. Would you believe that Peter is friends with Sirius Black?! It caused a huge shock all over the school that a Black was sorted into Gryffindor, but Sirius is nothing like the Blacks, he's a lot like James, actually.

Potions is a lot harder than I thought it to be. Lily's friend, Severus Snape, who's a Slytherin helps me and Lily with potions because he's really good at it. James and Severus hate each other they tease each other all the time and Lily dislikes James for it, but I think it goes both ways, hopefully they grow out of it because it is ridiculous. Peter doesn't like him much either but I think that's because James and Sirius tell him not to like him. Remus doesn't care what James and Sirius thinks, he thinks for himself which I think Peter should start doing too.

Anyways back to the Halloween Party, when me, Marlene and Lily got to their dorm there was a bunch of sweets and food everywhere! James had taken it from the kitchens. There were a few decorations which Sirius had done, they were quite extra but they looked surprisingly great! Remus was in charge of the music, he had brought a record player with him to Hogwarts, I don't understand how they work but I love them!! Pete gave us the scare of our lives, he wasn't in the dorm when we arrived and a few minutes later we heard a knock at the door, we all thought it was McGonagall or a prefect so we didn't answer the door, we turned off the music and lights and prayed whoever was at the door would assume the boys were sleeping and go away. But then Pete flung open the door! It was very relieving but Lily scolded him for scaring the life out of her.

I like Hogwarts a lot, it's very fun but I miss you so much! I can't wait to come home for Christmas!

February 26th 1972,

Dear Mum and Dad,

James has got a girlfriend, Peter and Sirius are positively jealous! Her name is Rily Ritz she's a half-blood from Hufflepuff, she's very nice. While I was out near the Forbidden Forest (don't worry I haven't gone in... yet.) I met this girl called Pandora, I didn't get her last name but she's very sweet! She's in Ravenclaw and is very good at Potions, she was collecting ingredients for a new potion she's attempting to make, I asked if I could help her and she said yes! The potion is supposed to allow everything you eat to taste like your favourite food! I'll update you on the progress.

Pippin hasn't been spotted yet, Alice is trying to keep him a secret but she's accidentally told 5 people. Thankfully none of them believed her, I was angry at first but I'm not anymore because she means well and is one of my bestest friends, sometimes we sit by the lake together and look at the clouds.

Marlene has become my bestest girl friend, we explore Hogwarts all the time and we have found so many secret rooms and corridors! We found an abandoned classroom, it looks like it hasn't been used since the 1920's as we found a piece of parchment in there with the date "January 10th 1920". We use it as a little secret house. We cleaned it up and we disappear for hours in there. We don't know whether to show our other friends because that would ruin the secrecy of it but I want to show Remus so bad! He says he likes exploring Hogwarts too but he hasn't found much.

June 10th 1972,

Dear Mum and Dad,

Sorry I haven't written in so long, I hope you don't think I've forgotten you, so much has happened! First it was Remus' birthday so we all got together and had a little celebration in the common room when everyone had gone to bed. And then it was James' birthday so you know a lot of big things happened that day.

People have started calling me and Marlene M&M like the muggle chocolate because of how much we're seen together. We don't mind it but now I want to try some M&M's. The potion me and Pandora were working on went well! There needs to be a few adjustments because when I tried it my hair went bright Green for a whole week! Everyone asked whether I was loyal to Gryffindor and some Slytherins even thanked me for the support! James and Sirius thought it was too funny and asked if I could get them the potion to use for "extra-curricular activities". James and Sirius have gotten a reputation for being rule-breakers and pranksters. They really are genius, I can't help but laugh! Remus is the real brains behind it (which not many people know), James and Sirius come up with he ideas and Remus makes them possible, I'm not sure what Peter does, I think he helps set it up. People feel bad for him because he looks like a tag-along but behind closed doors he really isn't!

It's almost the summer holidays which means it's almost our birthday! I was thinking if we could let me and Pete's friends spend the night? We've already planned the whole thing but all we need is your permission, please say yes.

James and Rily broke up too. She broke up with James for not talking to her enough, Sirius told James he should just end it and find someone better, which is mean but her and James bickered a lot.

P.S. How old is Dumbledore? People reckon he's between the ages of 80 and 200

A:N: I won't be doing second year letters because in all honesty I have no idea what to write in there. But I may do like a small letters chapter after every year because I think it'll show more of Mavis' feelings and ideas throughout the book and her thoughts and opinions as the story goes on and how her relationships and self begin to grow and change.
