hiraeth - part ninety

Goku glanced up to the spectator stands to spot 18, only for his eyes to widen as he spotted an unexpected face sitting among their eliminated members. "Piccolo!?"

Piccolo huffed as he sunk further into his seat, arms crossed as he pouted. Y/n could only wonder what sort of elimination he suffered to be in such a bad mood, but her attention quickly shifted onto something else as she recalled something.

"Piccolo and Gohan were together," Y/n spoke, brows furrowing in concern. Gohan hadn't been eliminated yet, but whatever he was fighting was strong enough to have taken out Piccolo. "We need to find Gohan. He could be in trouble."

"I'm sure he's fine," Goku said as he stretched out his arms. Y/n gave him an incredulous look, having to wonder if the man even cared for his own son, his next words bewildering Y/n even further. "He's my kid, he can handle it. When he wants it, Gohan is super strong."

Y/n squinted her eyes at Goku, wondering what was going through his mind, why he would even suggest the idea of leaving Gohan alone to face his enemies. Goku always jumped at the idea of getting involved in a fight, even Y/n knew that. It was strange.

Goku caught Y/n's stare, flashing her a toothy bright grin as their eyes met. Y/n scoffed in slight irritation, crossing her arms as she spoke, "Regardless, we should meet up with him, I haven't seen him in a while."

Goku only tilted his head to the side, still staring into her eyes, glazed over with an unfamiliar filter, making his eyes seem all the more darker. Like he were purposely blocking Y/n from reading him, from understanding what was going behind his eyes. It stirred up a feeling that was all too familiar to Y/n, one she thought she would never have the possibility of feeling again, one that she thought she didn't have the right to feel again. And yet, the butterflies within her stomach were suddenly bursting to life, threatening to climb right out of her mouth and fly away, leaving her under his strong gaze.

A loud snort caught Y/n's attention, her eyes finally ripping away from Goku as they landed on 17, who shoved his hands in his pockets with a head shake. "You guys are ridiculous, you know. So obvious. I'll leave you two alone. See you later."

17 turned and walked away, leaving Y/n wishing he had stayed. But now, she was entirely alone with Goku. Well, about as alone as was possible when the entire arena was visible to an audience. Y/n could only pray nobody was paying attention to the two, to the thick tension between the two.

"Wh-" Y/n bit her lip, her voice getting caught in her throat, clearing it with a cough. "What's gotten into you?"

"Nothing," Goku answered fast, too fast. Too impatient. He was suddenly wishing more than anything that they were in the privacy of a home, away from the prying eyes of their audience. "I was just realizing how much I missed you. How much I missed your kindness."

Goku leaned in, his breath fanning Y/n's face, and Y/n had sworn her heart had exploded, blood rushing to her face. "Your body, too. I missed everything about you."

His hand brushed over her cheek, smirking as he felt the heat radiating off of her, melting around her. She was like putty in his hands all over again, falling for his every movement, sinking deep into his hold, unable to climb out and save herself from the emotional mess he was sure to leave her in.

Y/n barely processed the feeling of his lips pressed so softly against her cheek, as if it were only the wind pressing a kiss to her face, as if the warmth were only the sun bathing her in its presence. But that warmth quickly turned into something more. The wind whipped harder, the sun became magma pouring over her face as Goku dipped her in the warmth of his love.
