He sat there thinking about her. He finally decided what she reminded him of. "She is as beautiful as untouched snow. And shines more than the diamonds hidden within it."
"No, I think you're mistaken. You mean her skin is white as snow, like that princess Snow White?" His friend mindlessly commented.
"No, I said what I think is true. I don't only look at her skin, or what's on the outside. I'm talking about what's on the inside, her inner beauty. Her beliefs and opinions, they're all her. They're all her own and not tainted by anyone else's thoughts," The boy explained thoughtfully.
"I don't even know what you're saying right now, you sound crazy," his friend said.
The boy sat there, deep in thought. Maybe I do sound crazy. So to justify his statements, he ran to the door ignoring his friend's protests to come back.
There he stood, in the middle of the shoveled path, sandwiched in between diamond encrusted snow and icy concrete path. The more he looked at it, the more he thought of her, and the similarities between her and the snow.
She is beautiful, and there is no denying that. She does have quite pale skin, and her vibrant, pin straight, red hair will always make her stand out. Her hair was always his favorite part about her looks. How it shined in the sunlight and moved so gracefully in the wind. And when she would lay down on the grass on a hot summer day, it sprawls out on the ground forever gracefully. She never ceased to amaze him by the way she brought beauty and color to dull and bland places. And when someone hurts her, she leaves. And when she leaves, the color leaves too. Some people say that winter is a boring and dull season, but she loves it. She became so fascinated by the snowflakes, the individual and different flakes of snow coming together to form something beautiful. To most, winter does not bring color but takes it away. But to her, winter is the bringer color and light and beauty. It nurtures and protects the young plants that will be beautifully blooming in the spring. To her, the snow is like a parent protecting their children from the harsh world. She believes that winter is one of the best times of the year because it brings families together, keeps them in the house away from the cold and near the warm fire.
The boy kept listing the reasons why she loved the winter in his head. He realized those were the reasons why he loved her. By the end of the monologue of his thoughts, he couldn't feel his fingers or his feet, but walked closer to the snow anyway.
Focusing closely, he saw the individual snowflakes, each one different than the other. The boy stood up, looked at the rest of the yard, sparkling in the sunlight, and finally decided he wasn't crazy. He wasn't crazy because she was made up of beautiful things, and alone they are wonderful, but together they make her. And he loves her. She is as beautiful as untouched snow after a blizzard because life with her is full of surprises and the endings are always as beautiful as the beginnings.
