[Prologue]

Anna's P.O.V

I sprinted through the forest, desperately trying to get away from the dead thing sprinting after me. I was trying my best not to fall over onto my stomach. I was nine months pregnant with my second child.

I was pregnant before the world started to end, and I was having a baby girl.

I had gotten separated from my husband, Brandon, and my best friend Marlene. They were back up on the interstate. The reason why we were separated was because of a horde, this caused one of these creatures to chase after me.

I panted as I stumbled and ran through the woods. My heart was racing, and I was petrified. I could hear the creature chasing after me. Which only made me sprinted farther and deeper into the woods.

I just wanted to get back to my husband and my best friend. I was too vulnerable right now, and I didn't want to get close to that thing to attempt to kill it.

A couple minutes later, I stumbled upon a farmhouse.

As soon as my eyes landed on it, I felt a smile crept onto my face. Though, it quickly faded whenever I heard the sounds of the creatures running towards me. I glanced behind me, before I ran into the fields.

I ran as fast as I could without tripping, and the creature continued to follow behind me.

I tried not to fall into any of the snake holes I would come across, and I tried not to stumble and trip over my own feet. I held onto my stomach as I soon made it into the driveway.

As I stepped into the driveway, I saw a little girl with long ginger hair. She was sitting on the porch writing in a notebook.

I glanced behind me to see the creature was far behind me. I then stumbled over to the girl, "Hey, you have to help me."

The girl looked startled at first whenever she saw me, "Who are you?" She stood up to her feet, and closed her notebook, "Are you okay?"

I panted lightly, as I started to take steps over to her, "Please, I need help. I got separated from my family, and I need your help."

She stared at me for a couple of seconds, before she nodded, "Okay, my sister and I will help you. What's your name?" She asks, her brows furrowed as her blue eyes stared into mine.

"My name is Anna Williams." I pant, raising my hands up in defense, "Please, can I come inside? I'm pregnant, and I need to get somewhere safe and away from that thing." I said, glancing behind me to see how close the creature was.

The girl stared at me for a couple of seconds, "My dad's not home right now. My sister, brother, and I are supposed to wait on him until the neighbors get over here."

I began to furrow my brows, "You're here by yourself, while those things are running around killing and eating people."

"My older sister and brother are here with me." She responds, shaking her head a bit, "We're supposed to hold the fort down, until my dad gets back with my other brother and sister."

"Well, that's good, at least you're not here by yourself." I nodded, still holding my stomach. I glanced behind me to see the creature still growing closer.

The panicked look started to grow onto my face, "Please, let me come inside. I-" I was cut off by feeling water starting to pour and come down my leg. I looked down to see that my water had broken, my heart began to race as a scared look started to come over me, "Oh shit." I murmured under my breath.

She furrowed her brows, as her eyes shifted down to my feet, "Did you just piss yourself?"

I shook my head, "No.." My gaze shifted up to her, "I'm having the baby."
