Over the next few days, Emma and Daniel grew closer. He showed her parts of the city she would never have found on her own—hidden gardens, rooftop bars with breathtaking views, and art galleries tucked away in quiet corners. With each new experience, Emma felt herself falling for Daniel. He was everything she had never dared to want—confident, passionate, and attentive in a way that made her feel special.

But as much as she was drawn to him, the sense of unease continued to grow. Daniel was often interrupted by phone calls that he would take in private, his expression guarded when he returned. Once, while they were at a gallery opening, a man approached Daniel with a nervous smile, addressing him with a level of respect that seemed out of place.

"Who was that?" Emma asked after the man hurried away.

"Just someone I do business with," Daniel replied, his tone casual. But Emma couldn't help but notice the way his eyes had darkened during the brief conversation.

The turning point came one evening when Emma and Daniel were at his penthouse, an expansive space with floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a stunning view of the city. They were sharing a bottle of wine, and Emma was beginning to feel more relaxed than she had in weeks. But then Daniel's phone buzzed again. This time, he didn't leave the room to take the call.

Emma listened in silence as Daniel spoke in a low voice, his tone calm but firm. The conversation was brief, but the words sent a chill down her spine.

"Make sure it's handled," Daniel said quietly. "No loose ends."

When he ended the call, he turned to Emma with a smile, but she couldn't hide the worry in her eyes.

"Who was that?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

"Just work," Daniel replied, reaching for her hand. "You don't need to worry about it."

But Emma was worried. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that she knew very little about Daniel's life outside of their time together. He had told her he was an architect, but she had never seen him at work, never met his colleagues. The more she considered it, the more she realized that Daniel was hiding something—something big.

That night, as they lay in bed together, Emma couldn't sleep. Her mind was racing, trying to piece together the fragments of information she had gathered. She had fallen for Daniel, but now she wasn't sure who he really was.
