Well, the story takes place in the world of Cardinal, a few years after the end of the Great War. Most of the events of the Great War have been hidden, and the rest have been left only if they are not harmful. This was a security measure taken by all important rulers.
On the other hand, the world now lives in an era of peace. However, it is not true peace, as humans have not yet fully accepted the monsters, and more. Therefore, they do not attack out of fear of the immense power of Tempest and its allies. Similarly, the monsters have yet to successfully integrate with humans, and there does not seem to be a foreseeable end to this situation.
Additionally, the world is still in a state of reconstruction, with only a few nations showing significant growth compared to their status during the Great War. (I am not sure if, in the real history, the world is very advanced, but in this version, everything remained shattered.)
Meanwhile, in Tempest, they have successfully rebuilt the damage and have helped the world while continuing to extend their influence. Therefore, it can already be considered the most important and powerful nation on the planet.
Other nations, such as Dwargon, Sarion, Blumund, Farmus, etc., have also grown and largely reconstructed, so now their main focus is to determine the future of these countries.
The Demon Lords have decided to form a semi-union in which the entire territory falls under the governance of the Octagram. As a result, any major changes in any of these nations must be reviewed. Usually, this is handled by Rimuru, who has become the administrator of all this (a bureaucratic nightmare).
The Jura Tempest Federation was renamed the Kingdom of Tempest, mainly due to pressure from its inhabitants and the support of the demons who liked the idea, resulting in Rimuru being crowned as king. The 12 guardians were elevated to high nobility, but this is only a way to differentiate them, as their main role remains to safeguard Tempest.
Furthermore, the Demon Lord Milim has been given the sky as her territory to manage, while the underworld is managed by Guy Crimson. Everything outside of the planet also falls under Rimuru's jurisdiction, although this task has been entirely delegated to Ciel, who now manages it. (Although Ciel would only accept this after discussing it with Rimuru about not receiving additional work.)
Due to the battles during the Great War, a large accumulation of Magicules from absurdly powerful beings was created, resulting in the emergence of several beings of catastrophe class. Most of these were quickly subdued, with Rimuru granting them awareness and new life. However, others managed to cause problems before being defeated, and some remain at large while being tracked. Even now, they continue to appear.
Rimuru was also tasked with purging the Magicules from these beings, which accumulated and, over time, generated portals to other worlds.
Initially, there was a plan to destroy all these portals, but due to the intervention of Veldora and Ramiris, they were allowed to exist under their supervision. These portals lead to other worlds that are similar to the world of Cardinal, some more or less developed, but all at a much lower level.
Finally, several scientific advances have been made in this world, but progress has been quite slow due to the fact that scientists are needed elsewhere. Therefore, developments in this time have not changed much.
This is a "little" summary of what has happened since the end of the main story arc, making it clear that I have only read the light novel up to volume 17, and unfortunately, I have received many spoilers about the ending. Therefore, I have simply included what I know. If I am wrong or go against the canon, please feel free to correct it, although there are other things in the story that I might modify (or not) to better fit my vision.
