Katsuki sat ruminating in the passenger seat of his father's car. Today marks seven years. Seven years since his quirkless best friend gained a quirk late, seven years since his not so quirkless best friend disappeared, since Izuku was taken. This day was always hard on the broody tean. Katsuki would never, could never sleep despite his early sleeping habits, this day he just couldn't. Every time he'd close his eyes, they were filled with flashing lights of police cars and ambulances and his crying classmates. The sounds all echoing around his ears despite not actually hearing it. He'd remember the big scary men taking his friend away. The way Deku had wiggled his way out of the man's grasp and ran to hide behind him. He could still feel the desperate way he had grabbed the back of his shirt with his bloody hands and the massive quirk suppressant cuffs that dug into his back. He could still feel his friends trembling beaten form and the bloody snot dripping onto his shoulder. He could still hear Deku's pained apologies, the scared and fearful way his timid voice trembled when he said he didn't mean for it to happen. Katsuki didn't know what had happened, he had just gotten there, not even past the lobby to the elementary school. That's when the men came to grab him again but Katsuki wasn't going to let anyone bully his friend under his watch, Deku had to have been innocent so why was he being taken away? Katsuki stood in front of Izuku protectively. Lighting the smallest of pops from his little hands. Despite his valiant efforts It did little to intimidate the men however, and to the boys’ dismay they were separated quite easily. Whilst Izuku was taken away, Katsuki was led to his class with the other students that hadn't been injured. Paramedics were everywhere, some classmates seemed badly hurt, even more hurt then Deku had been. How was that possible though? Deku didn't fight, Katsuki had always fought the bullies for him. He went to ask one of the extras what he had missed but all his classmates shrunk away, none of them wanted to be associated with someone friends with the dangerous class freak. So he watched through the classroom door from the hallway, his eyes widening as the paramedics stopped working and zipped up one of the class's major bullies, folding his signature red wings into a black bag and gently carrying it out of the room. A few other class bullies were either walked out or carried out on stretchers to the ambulances outside. At that moment he saw Auntie rush into the grade school, her eyes wide and filled with tears spotting little Katsuki. She practically rammed into him as she grabbed his shoulders, he could tell she was trying not to panic, he could see where Deku got it from. He would have laughed if the situation wasn't so scary.

“Kat, where is he? Where is Izuku?...” She had all but begged him to say deku was alright, that he was away in the bathroom. But he couldn't lie to her. He looked to Inko as a second mom after all.

“Please don't tell me they took him?” Katsuki couldn't comprehend what she meant and in that moment the mighty six year old Katsuki’s lip quivered as he broke down in her arms. He felt so guilty, if only he had been there earlier. He didn't know what had happened to his friend. And he was upset he couldn't do anything to protect him. Why was he so weak when every adult told him he was strong? How did Deku feel at the moment? He had to have been scared and here little Katsuki was sobbing to the missing boy's mother.

“at.. Kat?... Come back to me bud.. Katsuki!” he felt a soft yet grounding hand on his shoulder bringing him to reality. He blinked a few times when he realized his vision was blurry. His father had begun wiping just under his eyes with his other hand. When had he started crying? He didn't even realize when he had started to drown into that memory. It wasn't entirely out of the norm for him to cry, despite the repression of most emotions other than anger no thanks to the way his quirk works, Katsuki cried a lot.
