They didn't know each other for long, but he wouldn't want anyone to go through this kind of suffering.
David sighed, as he wiped away Daniel's sweat with his handkerchief. The humidity wasn't helping. Minutes after, Daniel fell asleep in David's lap.
Meanwhile, David began organising all the Cards they had on the floor.
-·-·-·-·-·-·-·-
David yawned, releasing the building pressure in his chest as he stretched his jaw wide enough to swallow an egg whole.
It was still raining without halt, the visibility now dimmer than ever. Even for their nation and its climate, it was raining pretty darn harshly.
David wondered if a Legendary Fomorian had risen somewhere, creating a tropical cyclone.
As he ripped his gaze away from the weather outside, his attention fell back on the boy in his lap, sleeping peacefully. It didn't look as if he was going to wake up any time soon.
After examining the sleeping boy for any signs of stress, Daniel shifted his attention back to his latest project, and also his only source of entertainment for the past while.
Cards.
There were neatly divided stacks of Common and Uncommon Cards. Their effects were pretty decent too, although David still hadn't added one to his Heart Deck.
There were only ten slots, after all. He refused to have his first card be anything less than a Rare, although he did keep one Card in his pocket in case of emergencies.
Remembering the Card, he reached into his pocket with one hand, and flicked it out the Card with another. It was a pretty neat trick, with some pretty basic sleight of hand behind it.
Bored, David projected the information of the Card once more, the same details he had read over fifty times by now.
Air Walking
Uncommon
Utility
This Card grants its wielder the ability to jump even while still in air. The wielder must imagine an invisible platform and immerse himself into the fantasy. Only when he starts to believe can he jump over this invisible platform. This platform ceases to exist after jumping once, and a new one needs to be constructed with the wielder's imagination.
Strangely enough, it didn't seem as if Uncommon Cards even bothered telling you the name of the set they belong to.
In any case, David was quite a fan of this Card. It allowed for easy access to anything fenced off, easy escape routes that those without the gift of flight can't follow him on, and also three-dimensional movement, since he could jump from any angle, allowing him to make moves even in free fall.
He didn't use it yet, though. He didn't have the intention of using an Uncommon Card unless he had at least two Cards of the same set.
'Air Walking, hm... Isn't that a basketball thing? The Card is also entirely about jumping; it has nothing to do with walking at all!'
Again, David complained over the same thing for the fiftieth time, before sighing as he looked back at the rest of the Cards, pulling a bundle into his hand and starting to shuffle it.
He spent the last good while learning card tricks and magic tricks, and he had to say, he was pretty darn good at it by now. With Cards of such high quality, and with nothing better to do, his mastery had risen quite a bit.
However...
'Hm ~ The sky is getting dimmer.'
The sun would have completely set in another hour or so. In this storm, night time would mean a complete lack of visibility. And he doubted any electrical lamps would be turned on, given that the people who manned them had likely evacuated too.
