After those words, the young man went silent, the soft smile still on his face, continuing to stroke Jean and Barbara's cheeks.
The two sisters didn't know how to react, and limited themselves to stare at him with widened eyes, they just couldn't believe that the handsome man before them, the same man who saved them from that wolf, the same man who knelt down and asked them if they were lost, was Barbatos, their Lord, their Archon. Their eyes were still fixated on him, on Barbatos, and not a word came out of their mouths. They couldn't accept the fact that a god was knelt down before them, smiling warmly at their surprise. Why was he on the ground, it wasn't his duty to worship, why was he giving up his role, his importance, to some little girls? Both Jean and Barbara couldn't acknowledge the modesty of the god who was caressing their cheeks so gently, like a parent taking care of his children.
Finally, Jean broke the silence, finding enough courage to speak. She whispered "Your name is Barbatos, like our Archon?"
Then he answered, in his tone a hint of amusement, and whispered back "Exactly like your Archon"
Barbara was still a tad bit shocked, her Archon, one of the few people she looked up to, was right in front of her, but her childish demeanour still had the best of her, therefore she blurted out "Jean, we have to tell mommy and daddy about this!"
When Barbara realised what she had given voice to, disrespecting her own Archon, quickly said, the pleading tone almost palpable in her childlike, high pitched voice "I- I'm deeply sorry, Lord Barbatos, please forgive me for my blunt statement, I would never ever talk about you without your consent"
Barbara was anxious, how could she tell her parents about Barbatos, she wasn't like Donna, or those other gossip addicted girls! She would never gossip, especially about her Archon! She made up her mind, if Barbatos wouldn't have allowed her to talk about this night, her mouth would have been shut, and no one would have known those secrets.
As Barbara troubled herself, worrying about what her archon might have thought hearing her words, Barbatos was doing his best not to laugh, not wanting to hurt the little girl's feelings, so he just continued stroking their cheeks, then moving his hands to the two sisters' heads, patting them, knelt down with a strange smile on his face, forcing himself not to show the intense amusement the little girl's apology had awoken in him.
He knew he had to give Barbara an answer, so he just said, his voice like the soft summer breeze, relieving, from the heat of the season "Do not worry Barbara, you can tell your parents about me if you want — although," he persisted "I can't help but notice that you're lost, how will you tell your parents about me?"
He then shifted his gaze on Jean and, before any of the two sisters could even open their mouth, he widened his eyes and blurted "Oh! You're hurt! I can heal you, mind getting a little closer Jean?"
Jean remembered about the cut on her leg she made bumping into the fallen tree a few moments before and slowly moved towards the god. When she got close enough, he took his hands out of his immaculate white veil and lifted Jean's leg a bit. Jean felt a swirl of feelings when his hand touched her leg, her heart beating fast, like when she ran and felt the wind blowing against her face, making her hair a mess. When he gently stroke his hand against her cut, Jean felt her cheeks reddening up, he was so kind, she wondered if he would have played dolls with her, if he had the chance. When she felt her small wound start to heal, her eyebrows lifted up, and she just stared in disbelief, just like her sister, at the miracle Barbatos had done. His hand had barely touched her leg and in a few seconds it was as good as new, not even a small scar where blood had been seconds before.
Jean couldn't help letting out a whispered "How did you do that...?"
Barbatos chuckled, and then said, smiling "I guess it's one of the perks of being an Archon. Is your leg feeling okay now?"
"Yes, Lord Barbatos, my thanks will never be sufficient" Jean formally uttered, her cheeks turning slightly pink when Barbatos carefully put her leg back down on the ground.
"No need to be so formal, little Dandelion"
"Dandelion?" Jean repeated, puzzled.
"You don't like Dandelions?"
"Oh, no no, I do, they're my favourite flowers actually..uhm..thank you Lord Barbatos" Jean said sheepishly, how could she be so irresponsible, to almost upset her Archon...
Barbatos smiled and turned to Barbara who was looking at her feet, silently hoping for him to give her a nickname too, and said "What is your favourite flower Barbara?"
The little girl hastily rose her head and smiled widely "I really like cecilias"
Barbatos smiled, nostalgia visible in his forest green eyes, swirling in them like a silver ring, a constant reminder of the good times...
"You know, I really like cecilias too, I even wear one, see?"
He pointed at his head, where a fresh cecilia adorned his soft blue hair.
Barbara felt like the happiest child on Teyvat, her archon's favourite flower was the same as hers?! She couldn't believe it, and put both her hands on her chest, turning right and left, her eyes shut hard, smiling.
Then Barbatos made her come back to her senses, his next few words dropping her excited mood "It is getting very late, your parents must be worried for you, do you want me to bring you back home?𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞
