The morning air was thick with tension as Matteo and Amara prepared for what was to come. The mansion, usually buzzing with activity, was eerily quiet, the weight of their impending confrontation pressing down on everyone within its walls. Luca, the man who had been Matteo's right hand for years, was under suspicion, and the realization of that truth was a bitter pill to swallow.

Matteo had been up for most of the night, going over every detail, every interaction, searching for signs he might have missed. Amara had stayed by his side, her presence a steadying force in the storm of emotions that raged within him. She could see the toll this was taking on him—the betrayal, the doubts, the possibility that someone so close could turn against him.

By the time dawn broke, the decision had been made. They would confront Luca directly, in private, away from the prying eyes and ears of the rest of the family. If he was innocent, they would know. But if he was guilty... there would be no mercy.

Matteo had arranged for the meeting to take place in his study, the room that had become the center of their world in recent weeks. Amara was already there, seated in one of the leather armchairs near the fireplace, her mind racing with the gravity of what was about to happen.

When Luca arrived, escorted by two of Matteo's most trusted guards, he looked as composed as ever, his expression calm and unreadable. But Amara knew that behind those calm eyes lay a man who was capable of anything. She had always liked Luca, had trusted him with her life on more than one occasion, but now... now everything was uncertain.

"Boss," Luca said, nodding respectfully to Matteo as he entered the room. "You wanted to see me?"

Matteo stood behind his desk, his hands resting on the surface, his expression unreadable. "Yes, Luca. We need to talk."

Luca's eyes flicked to Amara for a brief moment before returning to Matteo. "What's this about?"

Matteo's gaze hardened, and he stepped around the desk, moving closer to Luca. "We've been hearing things, Luca. Things that don't sit right with me."

Luca's expression didn't change, but there was a subtle shift in his posture, a slight tightening of his jaw. "What kind of things?"

"Whispers of betrayal," Matteo said, his voice low and dangerous. "Someone's been feeding information to the Lombardos, and we've traced it back to you."

Luca's eyes widened, and for a moment, Amara thought she saw genuine shock in his expression. But it was gone in an instant, replaced by a steely resolve. "Boss, you know me. I would never betray you."

Matteo's jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing. "Then explain why the Lombardos have been one step ahead of us at every turn. Explain why they knew about our shipments, our movements—things only you would have access to."

Luca took a step back, his hands raised in a gesture of innocence. "Matteo, I swear, I haven't said a word to them. This has to be some kind of mistake."

Amara watched the exchange, her heart pounding in her chest. She wanted to believe Luca, wanted to believe that this was all some terrible misunderstanding. But the evidence was there, and the stakes were too high to ignore it.

Matteo wasn't swayed. "I want to believe you, Luca. But too many things don't add up. Too many coincidences."

Luca's expression shifted, a flash of something dark crossing his face before he quickly masked it. "I'm telling you, Matteo, I haven't betrayed you. I've been loyal to this family from the start."

Matteo studied him for a long moment, his gaze piercing. "Loyalty is earned, Luca. And right now, yours is in question."

The room fell into a heavy silence, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife. Amara could feel the weight of Matteo's words pressing down on all of them, and she knew that this was the moment of truth. If Luca was guilty, he would have to make a move now—or risk being exposed.
