I am running in the woods in my wolf form when my Beta mind links me "Hey Arthur, are you busy? " I let out an irritated huff before responding. "No, what's up? " Earlier in the day, my wolf was being moodier than usual, clawing at my insides, ordering me to let him out. When I finally shifted he took off towards the city, before my beta interrupted our relaxing run. "We need you at a business meeting." I sigh "On my way. Have clothes ready."

My wolf needed some convincing to let me take over, he didn't know why he wanted to stay in fur form but he did. I argued with him on the way to the office. My building is right on the edge of the woods with the door propped open so any wolves can walk in. Inside Daniel was waiting for me with my Gamma Julian. I shifted and took the clothing, pulling on a shirt and shorts.

Julian was pale and had dark circles under his eyes, clearly my lack of a mate was affecting him too. Gamma's have interesting relationships with their Luna's. They are always really close, like siblings but. . . more. There is immediately a bond between them, similar to a mating bond but not quite. A Gamma serves his Luna first, always. The Gamma is basically the Luna's personal guard, while mates share part of a heart, the Luna and Gamma bond is like two parts of a soul. They just click.

You know when a werewolf is destined to be a Gamma because they are different, they give off a different aura, they are also always larger than most wolves and stronger so they can protect their Luna.

If a wolf that is born to be a Gamma never finds his Luna he will die, slowly, sadly, painfully. There is no greater honor than being a Gamma and no greater dishonor than never finding your Luna.

Daniel let me know the situation and quickly I was swept into a meeting. Which was followed by another and more work until it was lunch time. I was starving so Daniel and I went out into the city looking for a place to stop at. Noodles sounds good. My wolf requested, "My wolf wants noodles." Daniel looked at me and started laughing "Your wolf wants noodles?" I nodded, slightly grumpy at my wolf who only now decided he has preferences.

"I think there is a Bibibop around." Daniel pulled out his phone and led us to the fast food place. When we walked in the door chimed and a delicious smell filled my nose, it wasn't the smell of noodles, it was more like freshly baked cookies and pine and citrus and a good scent that I had no name for. Several werewolves were in booths around the room and soft respectful greetings of "Your Highness,"  came to me through the mind link.

I ignored them, trying to find the delicious smell, my eyes were drawn to a corner of the room where a soft laugh sounded from a human woman, she had beautiful brown messy hair and was facing a vampire with her back to me. I felt drawn to the woman. Which made no sense. My wolf was begging me to go over and lick her face. I shook my head to clear those ridiculous thoughts.

Daniel and I ordered, what, I don't know. He paid and I led the way over to the woman, who was now laughing hysterically and clutching her stomach. I noted the fact that there were a pair of purple forearm crutches and wondered whose they were, before asking her "Excuse me, can we sit here?"

Her beautiful dark chocolate eyes looked at me and time stopped,  I was aware of my wolf shouting MATE MATE MATE and prancing around in my head. I have a mate, I have a mate! I didn't mean to but I accidently lost control and sent the thought on a mindlink to literally every werewolf in the world. Um. . . oops?

Daniel stiffened besides me and I could feel his happiness crashing into me. My mate nodded, staring at the table, and moved over until she was pressing herself against the wall. I sat next to her and tried to ignore my wolf, who was demanding we grab her and take her back to the castle.

She clearly didn't feel the bond and the smell of her fear was assaulting my nose. I decide that maybe if I talk to her she will feel better, try to be friendly. "Hello, I'm Arthur, what's your name?" There that was good. At the sound of my voice she shrinks, shoving her shoulders forward, her hair fell around her face, she was shaking slightly. Was my mate malfunctioning? Was I supposed to put her in rice?
