As the sun climbed higher in the sky, its rays beat down relentlessly on Alex and Tropibud as they left Lushgrove behind. The path to **Scorchvale** was starkly different from the lush greenery of the Flora Grove Gym. Route 2 transitioned from vibrant greens to arid, sun-scorched terrain. The air was hot and dry, and the landscape was dominated by golden sands and rugged rocks.

Alex took out a map Professor Cedar had given them. It showed the route winding through the desert before reaching the town of Scorchvale. Alex noted the occasional oases marked along the way—potential places for rest and hydration. The heat was intense, but the promise of new experiences and challenges kept them moving forward.

“Hang in there, Tropibud,” Alex encouraged. “We’re almost through this stretch.”

The terrain was harsh, and the intense sun was a new challenge for both Alex and Tropibud. They encountered wild Pokémon adapted to the desert environment, including **Sandshrew** and **Cacturne**. Tropibud was a bit out of its element, but with Alex’s guidance, it adapted quickly.

At one point, Alex spotted a small oasis in the distance. As they approached, they saw a few trainers resting and their Pokémon cooling off. One trainer, a young boy with a wide-brimmed hat, challenged Alex to a battle to test their endurance.

“I’ve been training in the desert for a long time,” the boy said with a grin. “Let’s see how you handle a battle in this heat!”

Alex nodded, ready for the challenge. The boy released a **Sandshrew**, which immediately began to kick up dust. Alex decided it was a good opportunity to test Tropibud’s abilities against a Pokémon well-suited to the desert environment.

“Tropibud, let’s start with Vine Whip!”

Tropibud’s vines lashed out, but the Sandshrew’s **Sand Attack** clouded the field with dirt, making it difficult for Tropibud to see. Alex adapted quickly.

“Use Growth to boost your strength and then try Vine Whip again!”

Tropibud concentrated, its leaves glowing brighter as it absorbed sunlight. With renewed energy, Tropibud’s Vine Whip cut through the sand and hit Sandshrew, knocking it back.

The boy’s Sandshrew retaliated with a **Rollout**, rolling across the sandy ground. Tropibud took a few hits but managed to dodge and respond with a powerful Tackle. The battle was tough, but Tropibud’s determination paid off. Sandshrew was defeated, and the boy extended his hand in congratulations.

“You did well,” he said, smiling. “You and Tropibud are stronger than I expected. Good luck in Scorchvale!”

“Thanks!” Alex said, shaking the boy’s hand. “We’ll need it.”

As they continued on, the heat began to take its toll. Alex and Tropibud found an oasis with a small, shaded area where they could rest and cool off. They took a break, drinking water and allowing Tropibud to recover its strength.

Finally, Alex arrived at the outskirts of **Scorchvale**. The town’s architecture was suited to its environment—buildings with thick, sun-baked walls and wide, shaded verandas. The air was still warm, but the town provided a welcome relief from the desert’s harsh conditions.

Alex headed straight to the **Inferno Heights Gym**. The gym was built like a massive, ancient volcanic crater, with red and orange hues reflecting its fiery theme. The interior was heated, with magma-themed decorations and an arena resembling a rocky battlefield with pools of molten lava.

Inside, Gym Leader **Blaze** awaited, standing confidently amidst the flames and smoke. Blaze wore a fire-themed outfit, and his fiery red hair added to his imposing presence.

“Welcome to the Inferno Heights Gym,” Blaze greeted with a fiery grin. “I’m Blaze, the Gym Leader. If you want to earn this badge, you’ll have to prove your skills in the heat of battle!”

Alex accepted the challenge, and Blaze released his first Pokémon—a **Growlithe**. The fire-type Pokémon barked energetically, ready for a heated battle.

“Let’s go, Tropibud!” Alex called out. “Start with Vine Whip!”

Tropibud extended its vines, aiming for Growlithe. Blaze’s Growlithe used **Ember**, sending small flames towards Tropibud. Tropibud dodged and struck with Vine Whip, landing a solid hit.

“Good move! But let’s turn up the heat!” Blaze commanded. “Growlithe, use Flame Wheel!”

Growlithe rolled into a ball of fire, charging at Tropibud. The intense flames hit Tropibud, causing it to stagger. Alex knew they needed a strategy to counter Blaze’s fiery attacks.

“Tropibud, use Growth to boost your strength!” Alex ordered.

Tropibud absorbed the sunlight, its vines glowing brighter. With increased power, Tropibud was ready for its next move.

“Now, use Vine Whip again!” Alex commanded.

Tropibud’s vines lashed out with renewed strength, landing a powerful blow on Growlithe. The fire-type Pokémon was visibly weakened but still determined. Blaze, recognizing Tropibud’s strength, decided to switch tactics.

“Alright, Growlithe, take a break. Let’s bring out Charmeleon!”

Blaze sent out a Charmeleon, its fiery tail flickering with intensity. The battle grew even fiercer. Charmeleon immediately used **Flamethrower**, sending a stream of fire toward Tropibud.

“Dodge it, Tropibud!” Alex shouted.

Tropibud narrowly avoided the flames, but the heat was intense. Alex had to think fast.

“Try to use Vine Whip to counterattack!”

Tropibud swung its vines, aiming for Charmeleon. The battle was a back-and-forth exchange of attacks. Charmeleon’s Flamethrower was powerful, but Tropibud’s resilience and strategy allowed it to land critical hits.

Finally, Tropibud managed to score a decisive hit with Vine Whip, knocking Charmeleon back. Blaze, though impressed, recalled his Pokémon.

“Well done, Alex,” Blaze said, wiping sweat from his brow. “You’ve earned the Inferno Badge. You and Tropibud showed great teamwork and strategy.”

Blaze handed over the badge, which resembled a stylized flame. Alex accepted it with gratitude, feeling the heat of victory and the accomplishment of overcoming another challenge.

“Thank you, Blaze,” Alex said. “We’ve learned a lot today.”

As Alex left the gym, the Inferno Badge secure in their possession, they reflected on their journey so far. The desert had tested their endurance, and the gym battle had proven their growth as a trainer.

With Tropibud by their side and a renewed sense of purpose, Alex set their sights on the next leg of their journey. The road to **Graniteport** awaited, promising new challenges and adventures as they continued their quest to become a Pokémon Champion.
