Tuesday, October 30, 1984
It was Max's first day at Hawkins Middle School, it was a Tuesday, more than a month after the school year had already begun. Max was making her way to the principal's office with her bag and her board, Billy was supposed to drop her off and come with her to make sure they had all of Max's stuff, but he just waved Max off, Billy wasn't a babysitter.
The main office was easy to find for Max, down a little hall to one side of the front doors, when Max entered the door she spotted three people, two ladies, probably secretaries and a familiar face, David sitting on a chair with his bag and board.
David: Well well well, what a nice surprise,
Max: What are you doing here?
David: I was sick, I bringed my doctors report, waiting for the Sherlocks in their to confirm it.
Max walked to the lady in the counter, she had a shiny old-fashioned blouse. When Max told her why Max was there, she looked at Max like she was some kind of strange new creature, which seemed to annoy David.
David: What with that face, never saw anyone new?
Finally the women turned and called back to another lady who was digging through a filling cabinet to see if David's report was real. "Doris, do we have a class schedule for Mayfield?"
The second lady put down her folders and came to the counter. "What do you need a class schedule in the middle of the semester for?" she said, like Max had confused her.
David: Shes new here Sherlock, *David stands up* seriously what's taking you so long to check it, I missed enough classes, I have catching up to do just let me go.
The lady in the counter rolled her eyes, and shhh'd the boy,
Doris: Bennet, you can go
After that, she gave Max the class schedule, and she exited with David.
Max and David exit the principals room together
Max: They seriously don't have a rule for boards here?
David: I'm the only one in here with a board, they would bother to make a rule just for me, I don't think they even saw one before mine.
Max slightly giggled to that joke, that was what she was thinking aswell.
David: So whats your first class?
Max: Science.
David: Cool, so we are in the same class, follow me.
After following David, they arrived at class, even though every one except David got seated, the room had a lot of empty desks.
David: Gee, with that amount of empty desks you would think the students went off to fight a monster and never came back.
Which funny enough, it was exactly what Max was thinking.
David knocked on the door and entered the class, when the 4 boys saw David enter, they had a small grin on their faces, their friend had finally returned from exile. David went back to his seat, Max was planning to do the same but the teacher stopped her. The teacher made Max stand at the front of the room while he introduced Max.
To Max, It's so annoying how certain kinds of grown-ups always called her by her full name, like she had done something wrong. When Max corrected him, some girls giggled or whispered, but the boys only stared, except for David, which gave her a small thumbs up. After that Max went to an empty seat next to David.
