RECAP

Come what may, I will never bend to Malachi's wishes. My fate is my own to decide. "You too, Lance. And Finn. May the stars watch over us all."

Abby's hands shook uncontrollably as she clutched the letter, its ominous words burning into her mind like a hot iron. With each read, the ink seemed to deepen, the letters morphing into sharp claws that dug into her psyche. "Soon to be my collared slut" The threat felt tangible, weighing down on her like a leaden cloak.

Despite her father's strict command to stay close, Abby couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. It was as if unseen eyes were constantly monitoring her every move. She stood in her chambers, surrounded by luxury and protected by palace walls, but she felt exposed, vulnerable. Malachi's reach was long and his power insidious; the thought of him made her skin crawl. Even the warmth of the fire crackling in the hearth couldn't dispel the chill in her bones.

A knock at the door jolted Abby out of her thoughts. Her heart raced as she spun towards the sound.

"Who is it?" she called, her voice strained with fear.

"It's Lance," came the reassuring reply. "May I come in?"

Relief flooded through Abby and she rushed to open the door. Lance entered, his expression a mix of concern and determination. Dressed in his knightly armor, he exuded strength and protection. His hand rested on his sword hilt, a constant reminder of the danger they faced every day.

"You shouldn't be alone," Lance said gently but firmly. "Your father's orders—"

"I know," Abby interrupted, frustration lacing her words. "But I can't just sit here and do nothing while Malachi plots against us. And now Hax is involved too...it feels like we're trapped, with no one we can trust."

Lance's brow furrowed as he listened intently. "I understand your fears. But you're not alone in this, Abby. We're all fighting the same battle and we'll get to the bottom of it, I promise."

Though his words brought some comfort, the unease in Abby's heart remained. "What about Finn? Where is he?"

"Resting, as you ordered," Lance replied with a faint smile. "Though I'm sure he's not too happy about it. You know how stubborn he can be."

A small, weary laugh escaped Abby's lips. "Yes, that's one thing about him that hasn't changed. But I need both of you at your best. We can't afford any mistakes."

Lance stepped closer, his gaze intense. "Abby, I've been thinking...Malachi is after you specifically. Whatever his motives may be, they seem personal. We need to find a way to protect you without isolating you from those who care about you."

His words struck a chord deep within her. Lance was right; she couldn't let fear dictate her actions or push away those she trusted. But with danger lurking around every corner, how could she keep herself safe?

"Do you have a plan?" Abby asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Lance hesitated for a moment before speaking carefully. "There is a place, a sanctuary of sorts. The Blessed Crystal Cave, known only to the knights of the Song. It's said to be a source of great power and protection. Perhaps...it could give you the strength to face what's coming."

Abby's eyes widened in surprise and awe. She had heard stories of the sacred cave, spoken in hushed tones by the knights who held it in high reverence. It was hidden deep within the mountains and accessible only to those who had proven their loyalty to the kingdom.
