Background Information: Avatar Naissa is the daughter of the Earth King Gong Hemang and Earth Queen Me Gyalo of the Earth kingdom, thus making her the crown princess of the Earth Kingdom. She is also the older half-sister of Prince Li Helang and true heir to the royal throne. Her mother (whose an airbender) passed away when she was four years old due to an illness. Her father became distant towards her and later remarried another woman, who was arrogant and gave birth to Naissa's half-brother. Gong Hemang's heart harden and he became selfish, spoiling his new wife and son. While the kingdom hated the selfish new queen, wicked father, and spoiled son, the people admired and loved their beautiful, pure-hearted princess. At seven years old, Naissa learned she could firebend and told her dad and step-mother. The two soon discovered she's the next Avatar and Gong Hemang ordered the Earth sages not to inform the world. He decided (at his wife's insistance) to use Naissa as a weapon against the Fire Nation and subjugate the Earth Kingdom with an iron fist. At eleven years old, an Earth sage (whose secretly a member of the White Lotus) went behind the king's back and ran away with the princess from the palace at the cover of night. On the way to the the Southern Air Temple Naissa meets a fire ferret who becomes her animal guide and names her Lotus, after the organization. They go to the Southern Air Temple and there, Naissa meets and befriends Aang and Monk Gyatso. The Air Monks soon inform the world of the new Avatar. Four years pass, with Naissa mastering airbending. After one of her practice, Aang came to her and asked her if she wanted to go for a ride on Appa. In reality, he overheard the monks of the Air Temples plan to send Naissa away to the Eastern Air Temple to receive proper training. Aang refuses to accept this, believing it will tear him away from Naissa, and planned to take her with him on his sky bison, Appa. However, the two were caught up in a terrible storm, and get knocked deep underwater with Aang's bison and Naissa's fire ferret. Unconsciously entering the Avatar state, Naissa water-bends, freezing Appa, Aang, Lotus and herself, to save them from drowning. 100 years later, she and Aang are discovered by two Water Tribe residents, Katara, and Sokka.
