Chance

After Ocean had her little hissy fit earlier, I kept practicing my half court shots and 3 pointers. Maybe I'll hit the gym later.

I like to think of myself as that guy. Confident. Charming. Hilarious. Hot.

The school year starts in two days, and I'm pretty pissed that I have to share a room with Asher. Of all the people, why did it have to be him.

I shoot.

Some of the guys that were on the basketball team are also at the gym right now. I guess there building some weight for tryouts.

Shoot.

I feel like this year is going to be my year. I'll be captain, just me, not sharing with some nobody like Asher. Its bad enough already having to live with him for a whole year.

Shoot.

And I'll finally not have to see his stupid obnoxious sister Ocean. She acts like she has no money ever, and her families are millionaires.

"I don't own a phone."

Her words still linger in my mind. What kind of rich teenage girl doesn't have a phone? Whatever the reason is, it doesn't matter.

I hold the basketball on my hand, just standing in one spot. Thinking of Ocean when she was playing basketball. Maybe she wasn't that bad. Who am I kidding of course she's that bad, she's just putting up an act.

"Chance this was amazing, best birthday ever." My girlfriend Ella says and jumps into my arms. And I wrap my arms around her waist kissing her on the forehead.

"Only the best for you, princess."

Ella's excitement died down when she saw the one and only, ocean.

No one liked Ocean, she was bullied at school because her family was poor. The lorrence family. Most people say there the poorest family in the country.

She and Ella hated each other. Ella was the richest and most popular, and I Ocean was, well, you know already. Unpopular and poor.

Despite her having no friends, Asher, her twin brother, was friends with everyone. Usually no one hangs out with poor people. Apparently Asher is an exception, because he's one of the best players at basketball, tied with me.

"Ugh, birthday ruined." She hummed as Ocean came up to us.

"I know we aren't friends, but I wanted to say happy birthday." She handed a cupcake to Ella. A chocolate vanilla swirl cupcake. Her favourite.

"Oh, thanks, I guess. You can leave now." She demands in a harsh tone. Once Ocean leaves she throes the cupcake in the trash.

"If she made that it probably tastes like shit."

"Maybe she just wanted to actually get along with you for once. Ever thought about that. I honestly don't get what the deal is with poor people, their both humans."
