Sara turned, startled, to see her father standing at the door of her room, fuming with rage. "F-father?" she stammered.
Elarion quickly got to his feet and stood protectively in front of Sara. Garth took out a whip and approached them. He was about to strike Sara, but Elarion caught the whip mid-air.
"Don't you dare touch her, scum," Elarion said, his voice sharp and cold, his eyes icy.
Garth's face turned red with fury. He grabbed Elarion's severed wing and squeezed it hard. Elarion winced in pain and fell to his knees. Concerned, Sara knelt beside him.
"Elarion, are you okay?" she asked, her voice filled with worry. She turned to her father, tears in her eyes. "Please, Father, stop hurting him. Whip me if you want, but let him go. He isn't at fault here."
Garth ignored her pleas and continued to torture Elarion. Seeing Elarion being treated so harshly, Sara felt her heart breaking. She held on to him, as she sobbed silently. Tears streamed down her face in utter helplessness. When Garth was done, Elarion was badly wounded and bleeding. Sara kept on sobbing. Seeing his daughter shed tears for a dragon fairy fueled his anger further. He grabbed Sara's hand roughly.
"How dare you shed tears for that damn fairy?! Don't you have any shame?! How dare you cry for a lowly creature?!" he yelled.
Sara looked up at her father, her tears streaming down her face. "That's because I care about him, Father. Besides, you have no right to hurt him like that."
Her words shocked and startled Elarion. She said she cared about him. Furious, Garth whipped Sara hard. Her painful screams and tears broke Elarion's heart. When he is done, He said, "Both of you are not allowed to eat anything for two days, you understand?! Starve for two days!" He then stomped out of the room. When Garth finally left, Elarion, though in pain, moved to Sara's side.
"Are you okay?" he asked gently, his voice softened with concern.
Sara looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears. "I'm so sorry, Elarion. This was my fault. You got hurt because of me."
"None of this is your fault, Sara. Please don't cry," Elarion said, holding her hand.
"No, it is my fault. I am sorry," she sobbed uncontrollably.
Unable to see her in such pain, Elarion embraced her. "Please, Sara, don't cry anymore."
She calmed down a little. "Let me treat your injuries," she said gently.
As she moved to get the first aid kit, she winced in pain from her earlier whipping. Elarion grabbed her hand, stopping her.
"What do you think you are doing, you idiot?" he said sharply. "Your injuries won't heal by themselves. Let me heal them."
"But you are injured yourself. Please let me treat you," she pleaded.
Elarion's voice was stern. "I am a man and I am strong. You are a delicate female. The whippings were too much for your delicate body. You need treatment more than me. And I would be a disgrace as a male if I asked an injured woman to treat my wounds. So let me heal you first."
His words left no room for argument. Sara blushed and nodded, allowing him to heal her.
"Now, remove your dress and let me see the injuries on your back," he said.
Blushing furiously, Sara hesitated. Seeing her blush, Elarion smirked playfully. "Don't worry, I am a respectable man. I promise, I will not look at your body, even if I want to," he whispered into her ear, his voice husky.
She felt a shiver run down her spine and blushed even more, but nodded. She did as he said, and Elarion used his healing magic to heal her. As he healed her, he couldn't help but notice how delicate, smooth, fair, and soft her skin was. Her skin was a stark contrast to his rough and strong body. He felt a rush of desire for her but held himself back.
After he finished, he said, "Done. You are healed now. You can put on your dress."
She felt the pain was gone and dressed herself. "Thank you, Elarion," she said, her sweet voice making his heart race.
He looked away, blushing. "Whatever," he mumbled.
After that, Sara treated Elarion's injuries and bandaged them. "Here, I have patched you up as well," she said, smiling gently at him.
He blushed and said, "Yeah. Thanks."
"Wait, I will bring something for you to eat," she said.
"Your father ordered us not to eat anything for two days, remember? Are you going to bring food for me even after you experienced his brutal wrath?" Elarion asked, his harsh tone returning.
Sara smiled gently. "Yes, I will. You are hungry now and I want you to heal as well. Don't worry, my father is asleep."
His eyes widened, and he said, "Okay, do what you want. But if you get into trouble, I am not going to help you." His voice was gruff, but she simply smiled and said, "Okay."
Though he said that, he couldn't help but worry about her. She snuck some food out of the kitchen and fed him. He was taken aback by her selflessness and felt a rush of affection for her.
She then brought some food for him and fed him gently. After she fed him, she smiled gently at him and said, "Rest now, Elarion. Try to sleep. You need to rest in order to recover." He nodded and lay down on the bed. As soon as he lay down, he fell asleep from all the exhaustion and pain. Sara stayed by his side, watching over him.
