$276,203.16, that is the bill I racked up in the past 3 hours alone. Rookie numbers if I'm being honest but despite this fact, my father's number flashes across my screen. I debate if I should pick it up but there's a lot more money I plan on spending so pissing him off this early in the day, isn't smart. "Yes," I answer forcing my voice to be as light and cheerful as possible.
"You will never believe the call I got from the credit card company" my dad responds his voice sharp. He's mad but nothing, I can't talk my way out of.
"I did some light shopping with Elena" I respond feigning innocence.
"Light" he laughs the humor missing from it. "This is ridiculous Gia" he drawls on with another one of his rants, most of it I tune out. Its not like he cant afford it.
Im especially pissed off at him today which is making me ballsier than usual. "Consider it payment for all the years you left me with that psychotic bitch" I respond when he finally stops talking.
This usually shuts him up but he presses on. "How long are you going to hold that over my head" his voice is pleading almost.
I don't hate my father, at least not anymore. There was a time when I wanted nothing more than to see him six feet under but I suppose he has grown on me. I wouldnt go as far as to say I love him or anything but I might feel a tinge of sadness if he's gone. He's a decent father I suppose, he is a saint compared to the usual father figure girls like me are dealt. Elena's dad would have cut out her tongue if she ever spoke to him like this but that is the least concerning thing regarding her father. Once, she came 10 minutes later than their agreed-upon time and she was not allowed out for 3 weeks. Even then I saw the lingering remains of what is sure to have been a nasty black eye. Her dad has his rare sweet moments though, for her 17th birthday he surprised her with Architects, I was mainly shocked he knew that she liked them.
When I don't respond he presses on. "We have guests coming for dinner don't be late" With that he hangs up.
"Sorry about that," I tell the sales associate behind the counter as I swipe my card. It goes through and another $30,243.48 is added to my bill. Grabbing my bags I find Elena waiting outside the store for me. Her eyebrows raise as she sees the number of bags on my arms. "Yes I may have gone overboard". I suppose most of my purchases today were out of spite, a way to get my father to feel just an ounce of the pain I did for so many years. Its become my yearly tradition however, to my disappointment the amount I spend seems to decrease each year.
"Are you done because my feet are killing me" Elena whines. It's no wonder it does, she's wearing fucking stilettos. Elena has never once looked anything less than perfect. She would probably come out in a ball gown if she could. There is only one time I've seen her looking like a mess, however, her split lip, broken nose, and cut-up face pulled the attention away from her rather shabby outfit.
"Let's go", I feel like I've made my point to my father and if anything I can send Maria, my assistant, out later for round two. I hand my bags off to the closest guard to me and stick to window shopping as we make our way towards the black-tinted Bently.
Once in, Elena turns to me wide grin plastered on her face. "Angelo's coming tonight,".
"That is wonderful for him" I respond dryly. Elena has been trying to set me up with her cousin for ages, I would have figured 2 years of blatantly shooting down every date idea she has planned for us would get the point across but she is still clinging onto the hope we will get together. I don't know how this fantasy started, perhaps she was just annoyed I would third-wheel all her dates with Nico and wanted to find someone to pass me off to. I keep their dates PG otherwise, it would be strictly fucking in the back of his truck.
