INSIDE THE ENCHANTING cottage known as the white household, river lay on her bed scribbling away at homework. small strands of hair fell to her face and she blew them out of her eyes in frustration.

outside of her window, all animals peeked in, curious as to what she was getting worked up over. thinking she deserved a break, she stood up and walked to her window ledge, tucking her skirt underneath her before sitting down.

she gracefully opened the window and let the animals in, well the ones who could easily climb in. she hummed a little tune to them and hummingbirds from above joined in.

as she was stroking a deer, a knock on the door interrupted their moment. "come in." she sang, smiling towards the person who entered.

"mum wants you, its something about your royal advisor duties." her brother, ryder, strolled into the room, leaning on the wall next to her and petting a brown rabbit.

river furrowed her eyebrows and went to go ask for more details when he interrupted her, putting his hands up in defeat. "i know just as much as you do."

"alright, take care of them for me please?" he nodded and she sat up from the ledge and walked out into the kitchen where she knew her mother would be.

"yes mother?" she asked, sitting on a stool perched at the kitchen island. her mother was in the middle of baking pie when she hummed in delight, brushing her hands off and turning to face her daughter.

"i received a letter about you going to school early, something about prince ben needing your advice on an idea he's planning to pitch to his parents." river tilted her head in confusion. what was so important she had to go to auradon right away?

"ok mother. when do i need to be there?" her mother thought for a second before replying with a smile. "by tomorrow." rivers eyebrows shot up in suprise. tomorrow??? it takes at least 7 hours to get there in a carriage.

"oh. well, i would appreciate it if you called a carriage while i finish packing my things." her mother nodded and placed a kiss on her cheek. "im so proud of you honey. not even 16 yet and you're already helping out the future king!"

river looked down bashfully and placed a quick kiss on her mothers cheek before heading to her room. she saw ryder reading a book at her ledge and he looked up from it with a questioning gaze.

"well?" river sighed as she plopped down onto her bed. "i have to get to auradon prep by tomorrow!!" she threw herself back onto the bed while ryder stifled a laugh at her state.

"its not so bad. at least you can claim a good dorm before anyone else does. now come on, you were chosen by prince ben and he put his trust in you." river listened to his words and she finally got up.

"he owes me one."

SOMEWHERE ON THE isle of the lost, a scruffy boy was laying down on the edge of a building, one leg hanging off while the other was arched, a bejewelled hand resting on the kneecap.

his heavy gaze moved to auradon, the place that banished him and his mother to this hell-hole. why do they get to live their life in luxury while the sorry children of the perpetrators have to live like rats?

he heard banging and clattering from underneath him, making him remember the plan. him, mal, evie, jay and carlos had been plotting to steal a mass amount of food from their local keeper.

he was, obviously, lookout. he rolled his eyes before jumping onto the ground with a grunt. as soon as he straightened himself, jay came barrelling towards him with a bag full of loot.

"we gotta go man—!!" he grabbed his arm and dragged him along on his run from the keeper. "shit." he mumbled under his breath before running on his own.

he looked over his shoulder and saw carlos running with evie and mal besides him, the girls cackling evily while he was screaming like a chicken.

leo shook his head in amusement and took a sharp right, throwing a rock at the sign that opened the gate to their lair and sprinting inside.

one he got there, he lumped onto the couch, watching all the others walk in. "well?" he asked with a smirk.

"he's gonna have a hard time covering the costs for this." carlos snickered, slumping next to leo who dapped him up.

"just like—" "—stealing candy from a baby." carlos looked at jay with an offended expression. "hey i was gonna say that!" jay just smirked and ruffled his hair. "well i said it first."

the two broke out into an argument and at first leo was amused, but eventually it got stupid and he rolled his eyes at their immature behaviour. he glanced over at the two girls who had been too preoccupied to notice the bickering.

mal was looking through all the bags and took out a few ingredients, handing them to evie. "whos up for lasagna?" her cheerful voice sounded, breaking the boys out of their argument.
