The chatter in classroom buzzed like an eager swarm of bees, a mixture of gossip and laughter that filled the air. Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, casting bright beams across rows of desks. Risa Anders leaned back in her chair, her black hair cascading down her shoulders like a waterfall. She was the radiant sun in a room full of shadows, and everyone knew it.
"Did you see her new dress?" whispered someone. "It's totally stunning!" another voice chimed in, filled with envy. "She could wear a potato sack and still make it look good."

Risa giggled, her laughter a melodic chime that turned heads. She scanned the room, her gaze landing on Noah White, who sat hunched over at the back, his nose buried in a novel. She couldn't help but smile. He was so different from everyone else—an enigma wrapped in a hoodie. Cute. And utterly oblivious to the world around him.
"Hey, Noah!" Risa called out, her voice slicing through the noise like a knife. Noah looked up, his blue eyes wide with surprise.
"What?" he replied, his tone clipped, as if she had just interrupted a grand adventure in the pages of his book. Risa stood, her heart racing. "Can I borrow you for a moment?"
The classroom fell silent, all eyes turning towards the spectacle unfolding in the center of attention. A ripple of curiosity swept through the students, whispering and nudging one another. "Uh, sure," Noah mumbled, confusion flickering across his face. He followed Risa to the front of the class, the weight of a hundred gazes pressing down on him.
"Everyone, listen up!" Risa announced, her voice ringing like a bell. "I have something important to say!"
Noah's heart raced, but not with excitement. It was a different kind of anxiety, the kind that coiled tightly in his stomach. He shifted on his feet, caught between the warmth of Risa's presence and the cold sweat of impending embarrassment. Risa took a deep breath, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Noah White," she said, her voice dripping with sincerity.
Noah's breath hitched. What was she thinking? He opened his mouth to interrupt, but the words caught in his throat as she continued.
"I love you!"
She declared, her arms open wide as if embracing the entire room. Gasps echoed around the class like a thunderclap, and a collective "Ooooh!" arose, punctuated by a few stifled giggles. Risa's boldness was legendary, but this was something else entirely. Noah stood there like a statue, eyes wide, as silence descended upon him.
"Uh, what?" he stammered, flabbergasted. "Risa, you can't be serious," Noah said, his voice a mix of shock and disbelief. But Risa was undeterred, her smile bright as a spotlight. "I'm completely serious! Noah, you're smart, and you're funny in your own way. I want to be with you."
"No," he said simply, his voice steady, cutting through the tension like a blade.
"WWhat?" Risa's expression faltered, surprise morphing into confusion.
"I said no," Noah repeated.
The classroom erupted into a cacophony of murmurs, and Risa's smile began to falter, her confidence cracking under the weight of his rejection.
"Noah's right," a voice piped up from the back. It was Jake, the class clown, who was always eager to stir the pot. "Love is for saps. Who needs it, anyway?"
"Exactly!" Noah shot back, suddenly feeling braver. "I'd rather read a good book than waste time on something so... unpredictable."
Risa's face fell, and the laughter that had once surrounded her turned to a quiet sympathy.  Risa's eyes glistened with unshed tears, a hint of vulnerability breaking through her carefree facade.
"You don't even know me, Noah," she said quietly, her voice now barely above a whisper.
"Maybe I don't want to," he replied, the words spilling out before he could stop them. The room descended into a heavy silence, the tension palpable. Risa took a step back, her radiant confidence shattered, and the light she brought dimmed.
"Thanks for making this so easy, Noah," she muttered, turning on her heel and walking away, her shoulders slumped in defeat. As she left, whispers erupted again, the students exchanging glances, some in disbelief, others in awe of the spectacle they had just witnessed. Noah stood rooted to the spot, the weight of his decision settling heavily upon him. "Dude, you just turned down Risa Anders," Jake said, shaking his head, a grin plastered across his face. "You're either a genius or a fool."
Noah didn't reply. He simply returned to his desk, the echoes of laughter and chatter fading into a dull roar around him. The weight of rejection clung to him like a shadow, and he couldn't shake the feeling that perhaps he had made a grave mistake.
