"Rowannnnnn" Ashton groaned, playing with the rings on my fingers. I looked up at him from the classwork I was trying to do.
"Yes, Ashton?" I sighed, putting down my pencil. "I'm bored." He complained. I rolled my eyes and took a deep breath. I loved Ashton, don't get me wrong, but I didn't have the patience to deal with him at the moment.
"Well, Ashton." I began. "There is a wonderful classwork assignment you can do if you would like to graduate with decent grades." I pointed out sarcastically, patting his copy of the Odyssey.
Ashton groaned softly and picked up his book, flipping through the yellowed pages. He slammed the book down on the desk and picked up the work sheet the teacher gave us. He studied the page before huffing loudly.
"What is wrong?" I snapped, trying to do the work. "I don't want to do this crap" He sighed. "Okay then don't and fail." I said. "Okay miss smarty pants" He sang, picking up his pen and looking at the first question.
"Rowan I don't understand!" He cried, waving his paper in my face. I snatched it from him and read the question to him. He stared at the clock in the back of the room, fidgeting in his chair.
"Ashton. You have got to be kidding me." I said, trying to fight a giggle. Wait. I almost giggled! That was first since.. well, you know.
"I'm sorry I'm not as smart as most people!" He laughed, running his long fingers through his mop of messy hair.
"Ashton. The question says- 'Describe the main character.' Really Ashton?" I giggled. "EY! You giggled!" Ashton yelled. I quickly covered his mouth. "Ashton, please!" I snapped. I noticed a few other people looking up from their books at us.
I hid my face and tried to keep working, but it was hard with Ashton poking my sides trying to make me laugh.
"Ashton, Rowan, would like to share with the class?" Mrs. Skye spoke up. I blushed and slumped back in my chair, knowing that Ashton would come up with some smart mouth excuse.
"Actually, I would loved to share with the class." Ashton spoke, sitting up in his chair. "Well then, go on ahead!" Mrs. Skye said. You could tell it was a shock to her that he actually spoke up.
"Well, I was just saying how much I love to stay up until midnight and study the wonderful pleasure we call homework, assigned my none other than your sweet self. The world is a much better place with your extensive classwork assignments and as much as I enjoy the pleasure, I would rather enjoy other pleasures" He concluded, winking at me.
"Ashton stoooooop." I said through gritted teeth, and covering my probably very red face. "Well Mr. Irwin if that is how you really feel then I might just assign some extra homewor-"
Mrs. Skye was interrupted by the bell and the loud swarm of students rushing to get out of class.
"Ashton, what the actual heck?!" I snapped as we walked out of the classroom. "Just having a little fun, my little Ro boat!" Ashton giggled.
"Don't ever call me that again." I said. "What? I thought that was cute!" Ashton said innocently. "Well it's annoying so stop." I said, almost yelling .
Ashton's smirk was replaced with a frown. "Oh my gosh I didn't mean that!" I quickly corrected myself. Ashton gave me a puzzled look. "That wasn't me, I swear!" "Rowan, I'm pretty sure you-" "No, I didn't!" I argued.
"Rowan are you absolutely sure you feel alright?" Ashton asked. "I feel fine!" I snapped again. "Wait no! I mean I do feel fine." I said, trying to sound nicer. I groaned and face palmed.
"So," Ashton said, quickly changing the subject as we walked to our lockers. "Are you doing anything after school?" I thought for a moment before shaking my head. "Do you maybe want to go out for a few hours?"
"I thought you had to study for that test." I answered. "Studying doesn't matter!" Ashton replied. "Yes it does." "Not really." "It does." "Nope." "Ashton." "Rowan." I opened my mouth to say something, but closed it. It wasn't worth arguing over.
After stopping by my locker to get my stuff, we headed over to Ashton's locker. He fiddled with his lock before swinging the door open, which made a long band when it met the locker next to it.
Ashton giggled and threw a few crumbled up papers in his backpack before throwing in his history textbook. Everything he touched was a mess. He slammed he door shut, swung his backpack over his shoulder, and took my small, cold hand in his.
"So where would you like to go, Ro Boat?" Ashton asked. "What did I say about Ro Boat?" I said, ignoring his question.
"Sorry. You're stuck with that nickname forever." He giggled. "I need to think of an annoying nickname for you now." I mumbled. Ashton smiled and got in the car.
"So, where to?" He asked again. "I don't know, you pick." I said, shrugging. "We could go to the mall?" Ashton suggested. "Sounds good to me." I said, reaching for the switch for the radio. Ashton slapped my hand gently and laughed.
"No touchy! New car!" He scolded playfully. I rolled my eyes. "I just wanna listen to music." I whined.
Ashton handed my his phone as he started the car. "Here, plug this into the cord and we can hook up my phone." He told me. I did as he said and plugged in the phone and hit the AUX button.
Ashton took his phone from my hand and turned on Green Day. "Ashton noooooo." I complained. "What?" He asked innocently. "You do this every time!" I pointed out. "What? It's a good band!" He defended.
I pursed my lips and looked out the window. "And I suppose you'd like to listen to Ariana Grande or something." He sighed. "Well, yeah but whatever." I said, realizing how mean I must have sounded. "Oh come on, babe. Don't be that way." Ashton said, taking my hand and kissing it.
Don't be that way. Try going through the pain I'm feeling.
