One quiet afternoon, Haerin and Danielle were enjoying a peaceful day at home. The soft, golden light of the afternoon sun filled the room, creating a warm and tranquil atmosphere. Danielle was curled up on the couch, immersed in her book, while Haerin sat nearby, working on some documents.
The stillness was interrupted by the doorbell. Danielle looked up, slightly surprised. "Were we expecting anyone?"
Haerin shook her head, her expression calm but with a hint of curiosity. "No, I wasn't expecting anyone," she replied, setting her work aside as she got up to answer the door.
When she opened the door, she was met with a familiar face tall, with a broad smile and a warmth that radiated through his presence.
"Heeseung," Haerin greeted, her tone softening as she recognized her old friend from Canada.
Heeseung grinned, stepping forward to give Haerin a quick, friendly hug. "Haerin! It's been too long."
Haerin allowed herself a small smile as she stepped aside to let him in. "Come in."
As Heeseung entered, Danielle stood up from the couch, her curiosity piqued. She approached them with a welcoming smile. "Hi, I'm Danielle."
Heeseung extended his hand, his demeanor friendly and open. "Nice to meet you, Danielle. I'm Heeseung, an old friend of Haerin's."
Danielle shook his hand, her smile bright. "It's great to meet you, Heeseung."
As their hands touched, something stirred in Heeseung something unexpected. He quickly brushed the feeling aside, not wanting to read too much into it, but he couldn't deny the way his heart skipped a beat when he looked at Danielle.
They all moved to the living room, where Heeseung settled into one of the armchairs. Haerin sat next to Danielle on the couch, her arm draped casually over the back, her presence a comforting anchor.
"So, what brings you here, Heeseung?" Haerin asked, her tone warm but with a hint of her usual reserve.
Heeseung leaned back in his chair, smiling. "I'm in town for a few days and thought I'd stop by. It's been too long since we caught up."
They spent a few minutes reminiscing, with Heeseung sharing stories from their time in Canada. He found himself watching Danielle more than he intended, noticing the way she smiled, the sound of her laugh, and the way she leaned into Haerin as they talked.
After a while, Haerin glanced at the clock and then back at Heeseung. "I'm glad you stopped by, but I've got some work to finish up. I'll leave you two to catch up."
She stood up, giving Danielle's shoulder a gentle squeeze before heading to her office. "I'll be in the work if you need anything."
As Haerin left, Heeseung's eyes lingered on Danielle a bit longer than they should have. He knew he shouldn't feel this way Danielle was with Haerin, his old friend, and yet he couldn't help the attraction that was growing inside him.
Danielle turned back to Heeseung with a friendly smile, completely unaware of his inner turmoil. "So, Heeseung, what was Haerin like back in the day? I'm dying to know."
Heeseung chuckled, trying to push aside his feelings and focus on the conversation. "Haerin was always the cool, composed one. But she had a soft spot for the people she cared about still does, from what I can see."
As they continued to talk, Heeseung found himself drawn to Danielle more and more, his feelings slowly but steadily intensifying. He knew he had to keep them hidden, to respect the relationship between Haerin and Danielle, but the more time he spent with her, the harder it became. And yet, he couldn't tear himself away, enjoying their conversation even as it caused his emotions to churn.
