CHAPTER TWO

NIGHTMARES...

Tossing and turning, you lay in your bed in the tight grips of a nightmare. Everything comes flooding onto you at once. Your dad's fist tangled tightly around the collar of your shirt, pulling you to his face. "You're ridicilous you know that?!" he screams in your face, throwing you down on the ground. It was almost a daily ritual at this point. Instinctually, you covered your face as the first boot strikes you hard in the stomach. "Fight me like a fucking man," He spits.

In the room over, Logan's sensitive hearing awakens him, hearing distress and struggling in the room over, instantly he springs to action, preparing for a fight. His first thought is one of the mutants found out you were a human and didnt take kindly to it. He bust into the room, relieved to see only you curled up tightly on the bed. It dawned on him, it was a nightmare.

"Let go," you growled, still entrapped within the nightmare, feeling a firm hand around your wrist lifting it from your face.

"Hey, kid, wake up," Logan says, a bit of empathy in his voice. "Wake up," he repeated, shaking you a bit. Opening your eyes to the dim light, trying to make sense of it.

"Its just a nightmare, you're safe here, I got you," Logan hums, pulling you into a hug. Shaken up, you deny the tears welling in your eyes and fight the stinging feeling at the back of your throat.

"I just... I am so alone. I lost everyone because of what I am," you spoke forcing the tears back down. Logan swallowed, he knew that feeling far too well.

"You're safe, no one to hurt you here." Logan replied, gently tightening the hug for a second, before continuing, "and I'd be sorry for the bastard that tries to. I almost came in here claws out. "

"Claws?" You asked, shifting to look up at him, thankful for the distraction.

"Yeah. Adamantium." Logan replied, with a metallic snikt, Logan slightly unsheathed his right set of claws showing you before they retracted back in, the cuts healing nearly instantly.

"Now thats badass, " you chuckled and leaned back into the bed. You wiped the tears from your face, and breathed a deep sigh of relief trying your best to shake off the anxiety.

"Feeling better?" Logan asked, letting go of you. He smiled to himself, realizing how nice it felt to help someone. The feeling was oddly familiar, looking after a human, but his memory purged the specifics. "I know how bad those nightmares can be. I'm sure you'll hear me having one next- but do me a favor and don't come wake me up, I wouldn't want to hurt you. You're not a mutant."

"You have nightmares? What of? Nail clippers?" you chuckled to yourself. Logan returned the chuckle, deep in his throat before a more serious expression settled on his face.

"I hurt people. I lost people," Logan replied, standing up, looking you over one more time as if to make sure nothing had harmed you somehow.

"Need anything?" Logan asked, walking back to the door.

"No, I think I'll be okay," you watched Logan half smirk, nod, and return to his room. You exhaled deep, trying to shake off the last of the nightmare's grip. It was comforting finally knowing someone who understood some of you.

A few sleepless hours had passed, you were growing increasingly frustrated, everytime you attempted to close your eyes, the panic set back in. You had realized you left all of your anxiety medications at your mothers when you had to flee. Sleep wasnt going to come like this, you reminisced about the comforting conversation with Logan hours ago. Without thinking too much about it, you got out of bed and slinked to Logan's room. His hearing sensitive, he stirred the moment you gently turned the knob to the door. Opening it, you softly stepped in, afraid to bother him.

"D'ya need something?" Logan purred, sleep still half a hold on him. His voice warm and comforting.

"Yeah... afraid to sleep," rubbing your arms you stood awkwardly in the doorway, not even sure how you thought Logan could fix that.

"M'ere," Logan threw back the blanket, resting his other arm over his eyes to block the bit of light your door was letting in. Logan didnt think anything of it, he was in the seldom comfort of sleep wanting nothing more than to rest within the comfort.

"Oh... a-are you sure?" You stammered. Logan didn't reply, instead lazily motioned to the empty side of the bed. You had no clue what you expected when you had walked in, but you didn't complain. You quietly walked over to the bed and climbed in, Logan throwing the blanket over you. Half awake, he worried for a second that if a nightmare came to him, he would hurt you- but before he could protest, sleep claimed him again, the comfort of not being alone. Logan was heavy, his body pushing a deep impression into the mattress, making it hard for you to stay on your side as your body wanted to fall into the dip. Edging back to your side, listening to Logan's breathing turn into soft snores, sleep claimed you as well.
