Chapt. 3
Breathing heavily, Tom slowly crept out from behind the island in the kitchen.
"Dad?"
Tom looked up to see his daughter peeking from the staircase. He slowly stood himself up and collected himself for a moment.
"Where's Mom?"
Tom looked up at her again. "I don't know," he sighed.
She opened her mouth to speak, but Tom raised his hand to stop her. He walked over to the fridge, "Come and help me make dinner, then I will tell you."

Avery looked up at her father, "You can tell me now."
Tom sighed heavily. He told her about his talk with the police-- they would be back tomorrow to continue the investigation-- the groceries next to the pool, the packages in it, the creature wearing the Amazon vest, the hand--
The hand.
It was wearing a ring.
The same ring he had put on Brenda's finger on their wedding day.
The creature, the vest, the packages...
It all made sense now.
"Dad?"
Snapping out of his funk, he looked up at her, "As soon as you are done eating, I want you to get ready for bed and go to sleep. I have something to take care of."
"But Dad--"
"I don't want any arguments. I want you in bed."
As she went upstairs, Tom felt an unnatural sadness fall over him. His wife was gone.
His sorrow quickly turned to a fiery anger. Shaking his fist at the glass door, Tom swore he would murder the creature that drowned his wife.
And he would do whatever it took.
Chapt. 4
When he was sure his daughter was asleep, Tom went into his office and looked at the gun mounted on the wall. He went to reach for it, but paused. Was this the right thing to do? In his anger at the moment it felt like it.
He took the gun down, smiling. It had never failed him during hunting season. He hoped it wouldn't fail him now. He grabbed some ammunition from one of his desk drawers and walked out of his office.
The doorbell rang just as he passed through the doorframe.
"Just a moment!" he yelled almost tripping down the stairs.
Tom made it to the front door and opened it, not thinking about asking who it was, and stood face-to-face with an Amazon driver. He tried to close the door, but it was too late, they were already inside.
He watched in horror as the woman changed into the beast he saw earlier. The creature lunged at him too fast without giving him time to react.
The creature grabbed him by the neck, and with a loud SNAP Tom was dead.
The creature let out a howl of triumph and began to feast on its prey. It had not been able to capture the other human, as she had drowned in the pool behind their house; so it was very hungry.

When the creature left all that was left of it's poor victim was a pile of mangled bones and blood smeared across the floor.
With one last screech, it disappeared into the forest, pausing only because it heard a screech similar to its own coming from the house it had just left.
Perhaps the child had woken.
