Greg walked out of the crime scene and spotted Minerva almost immediateley. The face, he had seen so many times and always thought he was hallucinating.
It seemed, that the woman saw him too, except she looked like she'd seen a ghost. He walked towards her, even though it seemed so surreal.
"What happened to Cori, Greg?" Minerva asked, her face full of worry.
"It looks like, she's been murderd. I'm sorry, Minnie." The DI responded.
"Any clues of the criminal?"
"None."
They made their way to the flat. It looked as if a bomb went off. All the objects were on the floor, a cupboard had fallen over, on the wall was a giant H painted with red paint and in the middle of the chaos was a blonde woman lying on the floor, blood every where. It may look like a mess, but one thing was clear for Minerva.
"That's not my sister." She stated. Looking around the room, every police officer was confused by this statement.
"Are you sure? I mean, you haven't seen her for a long time." A voice from behind inquired. Minerva had hoped to never hear this person talk ever again.
"Yes I'm sure, Donovan, I've spent twenty years with her in the same household!" Minnie couldn't contain her emotions anymore.
"But if you really want proof, you have to wait at least ten seconds." She crouched down to Archie an whispered something in his ear. The dog began to sniff the dead body and, not even ten seconds later, started to growl."Dogs really are the best of proof." Sherlock grinned.
"That means, her sister is missing?" Lestrade asked confused.
"Yes."
"But where?" John looked around the flat.
"Why don't we let 'Miss Emotional' try it? It would be a nice change from the usual Freak." Donovan mocked. Four faces changed their expression within seconds, two looked pissed, two looked unimpressed.
"I suppose, I give it a shot. I don't know where she is, but it has something to do with this giant H on the wall, I'm certain. The murdered woman is about 32, married and had two children." Minerva stated.
"Why had?"
"Because she was in the paper a week ago, her children died in the car crash in which she was involved. You don't read newspaper, do you?" Now it was the former Detective's turn to mock."That's all well and good, but what does that mean?" Lestrade intervened.
"It means, that Moriaty made his first move. And he left us a clue." Sherlock picked up a small piece of paper.
"Fear will be our enemy and death it's consequence. See you on the other side, Sister. Cordelia." These words felt like a slap in the face. Her sister had been afraid of her? Minerva's mind was racing, so much, her head began to throb. What could she possibly have done to scare her sister? She searched her brain for an answer to this question, but all she found were unpleasant childhood memories. See you on the other side... What did that mean?
"E-Excuse me for a moment." She stammered and walked out of the flat, Archie following close behind.
"What if she has something to do with it? I'm just saying, it seems that her sister was apparently scared of her." Donovan suspected.
"Are you out of your mind, Donovan? She doesn't even have a motive! And I'm certain that she has never met Moriaty in her entire life! And you know what happened the last time you doubted someone." The DI fumed.*************************
Minerva sat on a bench, opposite the building, stairing at the ground. She didn't know what she could have done to terrify her sister. Maybe it was the fight yesterday, maybe it was something she'd done back in her childhood days. Her foot began tapping on the floor. The first sign that she was about to have a panic attack.
"Minnie, are you okay?" A familiar voice asked. She looked up to see Greg standing in front of her.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"You don't seem fine."
"Sorry, it's just a bit too much right now."
"Do you want to talk about it? You don't have to, of course."
"I guess, it would be nice to talk about it. It's just that, my sister had an argument yesterday and now she's gone. Also, the note is confusing, because I don't know what I could have possibly done to scare her."
"Maybe it is just Moriaty, playing with your mind. I belive, I know you well enough to say that you're better than that. And I think that we'll find her." The DI smiled. When the woman in front of him returned the smile, he felt his heart skip a beat. He hadn't seen this smile in years and it felt good to finally see it again.
"I should get going now, Archie will kill me if I don't feed him." Minerva joked halfheartedly.
"Goodbye"
"See you."***********************
"You're quitting? Is everything alright? Did something make you uncomfortable?"
"No I'm fine, Greg, really. It's just my mother's condition is getting worse and I have to take care of her. Sorry."
"Don't be. I completely understand that. So, this means gooodbye, doesn't it?"
"I guess it does."
"It was fun working with you Minnie. I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you too, Greg."
"Do you think we will meet again?"
"I don't know, maybe."
"Goodbye then, Professor Mcgonagall."
"Goodbye, you bugger."
Both of them turned around and started walking away. A few tears rolled down Minervas cheeks, as she whisperd the one thing, wich she had never found the courage to say, to herself.
"I love you"Minerva's eyes hit open. No, please no! This had to be some kind of cruel joke. She couldn't be in love again. Especially with the same person, she had fallen for seven years ago. That one person, from whom she had always had to hide her feelings. Minerva recalled, what her aunt had once said to her: "If it's really love, it'll come back, hun. And it will hit you in the face like a brick."
It didn't only hit her in the face, it terrifyed her to the bone.********************
Minerva had changed. Greg was aware of that. Although, he never thought that this change would be this drastic. Minnie had been funnier, warmer and more playful. Now she seemed cold. And why did his heart skip a beat? They were friends. But his mind didn't let this thought go. Instead it reminded him of countless times the smiled at eachother, or shared a laugh, during the time they worked together. With these thoughts on his mind, Greg finally drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
