Chapter 1: Realizations
Naruto was rather furious with the predicament he found himself in. It had only been two and a half months since he began a three-year training trip with Jiraiya of the Sannin, aiming to grow stronger and prepare for the Akatsuki's return. The Akatsuki had gone into hiding to prepare for their plan to hunt down the Jinchuriki, giving Naruto a narrow window to ready himself.
So far, Jiraiya had been wasting his time, focusing on chakra control exercises and maintaining a healthy diet, with the intention of eventually teaching Naruto how to use the Kyuubi's chakra and dispel genjutsu. Naruto understood that Jiraiya meant well and wanted to train him into a capable shinobi who could one day face the Akatsuki. But he couldn't help wondering what the point was in being taught basic skills that wouldn't help him against S-rank rogue ninjas who could level entire mountains.
How he wished he were in Sasuke's place right now. For all of Orochimaru's twisted personality, he was probably putting Sasuke through rigorous training, teaching him jutsu after jutsu and other shinobi skills the boy could actually use. But for Naruto, Jiraiya had done the bare minimum, often getting distracted whenever they passed a brothel or when an attractive girl walked by. Jiraiya would try to flirt, only to end up getting trashed, leaving Naruto frustrated with the lack of serious training.
It also seemed that Jiraiya always prioritized his "research" above all else, focusing on writing one of the biggest smut books in the elemental nations. To gather material for his book, he used the girls at the hot springs as inspiration, resorting to peeping as his method. This habit frequently left the Toad Sage beaten within an inch of his life.
Two and a half months into the training, Naruto was on the verge of tearing his hair out in frustration. At the pace they were going, he felt he would never achieve his lifelong dream of becoming Hokage or even hope to catch up to Sasuke, his brother figure. And as for Sakura, how could she ever love him if he remained weak and unable to fulfill even a single promise?
Naruto truly began to question whether this training trip was a good idea at all.

Jiraiya laughed as he flirted his way out of the brothel. "Goodbye, ladies!" called the Toad Sage, his cheeks flushed red, a clear sign of how much alcohol he had consumed that night.
"Goodbye, Jiraiya-sama! Make sure to visit us again!" the women at the brothel shouted after him. Jiraiya smiled broadly and replied excitedly, "Of course, my beautiful ladies!" before he turned and made his way back to the hotel he had booked.
"I wonder what the kid has been up to?" the Sage thought as he walked toward their room. Opening the door, he was surprised to find the room empty and the lights off. There were only two possibilities either Naruto was out getting ramen, though it was late enough that only shady clubs would be open, or the kid had been training so hard that he'd ended up sleeping outside.
