Lorenzo
The sound of me tapping on my keyboard was somehow irritating, giving me an even bigger headache than the one I already had.
The reason was most likely because of all of the problems and complaints I had been getting from my employees.
See, there were good days, where everyone could work in piece, including me.
This was not one of those days.
And to top it all off, I had quite the stomachache.
It probably the disgusting Fettuccine Alfredo I had eaten yesterday. It tasted like expired cream cheese mixed with soggy left-out from yesterday noodles.
Even with the constant ringing in my head and pain there and now in my stomach, I tried to make the most of what could keep me going, which was the chocolate I had bought from the store yesterday. If it weren't for the kindness annoying, curious girl who I had ran into three times, I would've probably fainted by now. There was no work for me without a small snack lying around, and without me, there wouldn't be any work at all. I tapped on the button at the top of my screen and I saw a new system request.
Someone wanted to see me.
A knock on the door from outside caught my attention.
"Come in." I replied, a hint of frustration in my voice.
I watched as a female opened the door and walked in.
"Good morning Mr. Diáz. I have to talk to you about something important."
"Liza, if this is about the new furniture movements, I already took care of that."
Earlier this month, the stupid building management had told the movers to rearrange some furniture so the office could run more smoothly. Bad decision, because now the office was dreading even coming to work, including me.
Building management had moved away the couch in the break room to god knows where. They had also moved the water dispenser from the kitchen on the third floor, where everyone works, to the fifth floor, where only the important meetings took place. For some reason, the building management had thought that moving the water dispenser to where all the important people were, it would sign more deals because the investors would think that we were only putting the dispensers there to welcome them. But all that the rearrangement did was make employees who were thirsty for water interrupt our meetings by making lots of noises and causing things like someone to fall and slip.
"It isn't about the new rearrangements. It's about the upcoming events." Liza said, sitting down on the chair across from mine.
"Which events?' I asked, setting my elbows on the desk while my fingers pushed my upper cheek up.
"The company gala in four days. I'm concerned. You might not be able to attend it if you don't find a partner to go with. They are expecting you to bring a date." Liza explained, her voice pitching a bit higher than before.
"I don't expect them to just exclude me, the CEO from the event."
"They will, Mr. Diáz. You have kept telling them that you'll bring a date to the galas. It's one of the policies, you know? To have someone by your side. It'll make you look powerful."
I groaned in response.
"Liza, you, as my assistant should listen to me now. Talk to the gala organizers and tell them that I don't give a flying fuck about if I have to bring a date or not. They will not exclude me."
She was about to say something but quickly closed her mouth and reluctantly nodded in response before she stood up and walked out.
I was glad that she had finally, because now i co-
Another knock on the door.
A quiet groaned escaped my mouth as I told them to come in.
My eyes wandered to a familiar petite, blonde woman with green almond eyes, who had entered my office.
"What do you want?" I asked her, a bit of irritation audible in my voice.
"Not even a hello, wow. Well, I wanted to talk to you about something."
"Are you here to ask me why I was looking at flowers again? Or is it something actually worth answering?" I questioned. I wasn't in the physical and mental mood to answer any stupid questions.
"Haha, very Funny." She said, leaning back into her chair. "I need your actual help. Someone broke into my apartment again yesterday, and I came here to ask if you could help install security in my house."
"And why exactly should I?"
"Because you're the CEO of a company that is supposed to provide protection and security. You should at least install a security system in the apartment building I live in. That way, everyone is safe." She explained, crossing her arms over her chest before she leaned forward.
"And don't think about saying no, because I did not drag my ass over here just for you to deny my request." She whispered.
Maybe it was a little bit much to personally talk to the CEO yourself if you wanted to have a security system installed in the place you lived in, but I was too lazy to schedule meetings and appointments, so I figured making people come directly to my office would be the easiest way.
I was about to say something when suddenly my phone rang. I picked it up and listened to the person on the other line.
"Why did you call me, Liza?"
"Mr. Diáz, I talked to the gala associates and organizers, they all said it is a strict requirement to bring a partner as the CEO. There was nothing I could do or say to convince them."
"Ok, we'll talk about this later."
I hung up and took a deep breath. Why did the policies have to include bringing a partner as the CEO? It was the most stupid rule ever.
"I'll do it." A voice said out of nowhere.___________________
