It was way past Build's bedtime, but he stared at a message on his phone. A message he had written about thirty minutes prior.
"I reached my goal weight, now what?"
The message had a picture attached and that was what was making him extra nervous. He had gone for a jog earlier in the day and though he was too tired to have a long one, it was an extra hot day and he was very sweaty. His cheeks were pink and his hair was sticking to his face, sweat drops sliding down from under his favorite blue cap. He was holding the phone with one hand and in his mouth he pinched the front bottom of his shirt with his teeth. It showed off his stomach and the look in his eyes was extra playful, something akin to an invite. Build had no idea how else to get the trainer's attention back, but he figured resorting to old habits is a good place to start.
Sending the message felt like what he imagined throwing himself off a precipice felt like. A quick decision that would make him or break him. He would either land the jump safely or his body would bounce off the rocks like a pinball.
It didn't take long to crack his back on a boulder, the phone vibrated before he could put it down in the nightstand beside him.
The trainer had given the picture a fire emoji and that had Build sitting up, the sheets rolled off him. The three gray circles appeared quickly after, there was a response coming. Why is he up so late?
"We'll start working on abs then." It was a simple response.
Build sighed with disappointment. It wasn't that he was expecting anything special, but he just couldn't get rid of the feeling that began the day he saw the trainer's new client. He recognized what it was right away, but he had done his best to turn it into other things like: resentment, anger or animosity.
The angry eyes that stared at him from the hallway, and the ones who avoided him last time at the gym had destroyed all his attempts. They had forced him to sit in his insecurities until he was sick. Shereen knocked the much needed sense into him, but it made the feeling much worse.
"What time do you get off work tomorrow?" Build typed as fast as he could.
"You mean today?" The trainer responded in seconds.
Build rolled his eyes at how annoying the bastard Adonis could be. The cockiness that only existed in a person who is so attractive he could get away with an audacious personality.
"I get out around 6:30, why?" Bible must have recognized Build's exasperation in his lack of a reply, because he sent another message. A message that made Build's hands so sweaty, he put the phone down in front of him.
Why? That was a damn good question. Build had never been a talker, Build was an avoider. He did everything in his power to just ignore a situation until it was gone out of his mind. Why was it so different? Why couldn't he avoid it? Why did his stomach feel so terrible all of a sudden? Why wasn't he running? Why was the trainer such a gigantic force around him?
"Is it to play Overwatch?" Another message vibrated. It was an olive branch, the opportunity to go for something less confrontational. Build sighed again and though his heart was running a mile a minute and his hands were disgustingly sticky he wanted to be brave.
"We can do that too, but I was hoping we could talk. I can meet you by the gym."
"Okay. I'll see you then."
Bible's quick answer ignited Build's trepidation. The answer was too short, there were too many periods. Why is he using so many periods? A pin popped up under the message. It was the location of a small cafe that was way farther from the gym that Build was anticipating. There was no option but to take it, because beggars had no right to be choosers.
