Chapter 9: Nick's Past

Nick's POV

I drove up to her house and waited. I knew girls always took so long to get ready so I slumped into my cushioned seat. I sighed and looked at the time. Minutes past and I got bored so I turned on the radio. I saw June come out and I saw her wearing a gray cardigan, a blue sundress under it and a pair of tan sandals. The girls must of went shopping yesterday and must of gotten new clothes. June looked good. I assume that June wore nerdy baggy clothes to hide her insecurities even though she has an amazing body to show off. She opened the door and got in. "Hey." "Hi" she said and smiled. I began to drive and she asked me, "So what movie are we going to watch?" "Crimson Peak" I said. She nodded her head and looked outside. "Have you ever seen a horror movie?" She shook her head, "No this will be my first time." "Hmm" I said. This was going to be a very interesting.

I pulled over and got out of the car and she followed me out. I sighed the others aren't here yet then a smirk formed on my lips. "If you get scared during the movie, I can hold your hand" I joked. "Haha funny Nick" she said rolling her eyes. I saw Jared walking with Stephanie holding hands. "Hey guys!" Stephanie said. I waved and June said "hey." I saw a Chevy Silverado truck park next to my car. Brady and Sarah came out of the truck. They looked both ways and ran to us. "Alright everyone made it" Jared said and pumped his fist in the air like some weird anime character. We all went up and bought our tickets. We went in and Brady looked at the line. "Hey I'm gonna to get some popcorn." Jared and I looked at each other for a second. "I'm going to get some m&ms" I said walking up to the line and stood behind Brady. Jared followed and pulled out his wallet. "Hey Jared we're going into the theater let the guys know" Stephanie said. "Alright we'll meet you there."

June's POV
We gave our tickets to the ticket collector and walked into the theater. We looked for seats and Stephanie sat down a row before me. Sarah sat a seat behind me. Stephanie sat her purse on another seat and Sarah did the same. I didn't bring a purse so I just put my legs on the seat next to me. Jared and Brady came back and sat with Sarah and Stephanie. Nick came in after and sat next to me, shoving popcorn and m&ms in his mouth. "What happened to just getting m&ms?" I teased. Nick shrugged then smiled, "I got even more hungry after I smelled the popcorn." I giggled then saw the movie screen light up.  Then movie was going on and I had to admit the movie was pretty scary. In a few parts of the movie I jump and hid myself in his arms. Nick chuckled and would hold me.
"Getting comfortable are we?" Nick said. I slipped out of his arms and scoffed, "You wish." While watching the movie, Nick and I accidently reached for the popcorn at the same time. Nick pulled his hand back and I quickly grabbed a few pieces of popcorn. I ate it and then continued to watch the movie. I glanced at Nick to see if he enjoyed watching the movie and for some strange reason he was smiling. He was smiling when watching a freaking horror movie. I covered my eyes with my hands in one of the scenes that got too gruesome for me.

Nick's POV

She was pretty jumpy in some parts of the movie. It was pretty funny whenever you'd see June jump and hide herself in my arms. For some weird reason though, I kind of liked it. It just felt natural to hold her in my arms. I looked over to check on June and I found her balled up in her seat. I muffled a laugh and she looked at me. I could imagine the look she's giving me and tried to supress my laugh. We continued to watch the movie until it ended. We walked out of the movie theater and I looked at everyone. "So how'd you like the movie guys?" I asked. "It was good" they answered. "Hey do you guys went to eat out somewhere?" I asked. "Nah, Stephanie needs to go home, her parents told me to drop her off when the movie was finished" Jared said. "We can't stay, we have a party to go to" Brady said and looked at Sarah. "Well I guess we'll call it a night" I said. "Have a good weekend alright?" Jared said. I nodded my head. Stephanie and June said good bye to one another. Brady looked at me and grinned, "See you on Monday" he said and patted my shoulder. "See you man and hey! don't party too hard drunky." "You know me to well Wonder" he smirked and walked to the truck. Sarah and June finished talking and waved good bye. I looked at June and asked "Do you want to go out and eat?" "Nick, are you asking me on a date?" June asked me with an amused smile. I looked away and cleared my throat."N- no I just thought you were hungry and wanted to eat." She laughed and I glanced at her. "I was joking on the dating but I am hungry so yeah I'll come." I mumbled a little as I felt my ears burn. We got in my car and I started the engine. "Oh yeah listen to the purr" I said in my movie voice. She laughed at me and I couldn't help but like that cute laugh of hers. Without even realizing it I stared at her for awhile. "Nick? Nick? Are we going? She asked me, breaking me out of my trance. "Oh yeah" I said and stepped on the gas pedal. On the highway she asked me, "So why were you smiling when watching that movie?" " I guess I didn't notice, maybe because I enjoy it alot?" I said. She laughed and said, "Ok weirdo." I stole a glance at her. "So did you like the movie scaredy cat?" I asked, wagging my eyebrows at her. "Yes I liked it and I was not scared!" "Oh yeah? Then why did you hide yourself in my arms?" I asked her. "That was because... because, that's not a fair question. The monsters were jumping out of the screen!" she said and pouted. I let out a laugh and drive until we arrived at T.G.IF's. I parked and looked at her to see why she was so quiet. "Come on June you can't stay angry at me" I said while tickling her sides. She laughed and wiggled. I grinned at her reaction. She tried to push my hands away but I didn't stop. "Stop stop! Okay I forgive you now just please stop tickling me!" I laughed at her and pulled my hands away, "Who knew that a girl like you was ticklish" I said and smirked. We got out of the car and I saw a waitress waiting at a stand. "Hello welcome to Friday's" "Hi table for two please" I said. The waitress gestured us to follow her. We sat down. What drink can I start you two off with?" She asked with boredom while she was smacking her gum. "Hi, can I have a sweet ice tea?" I asked. The waitress wrote it down and looked at June. "And for you?" "water with lemon" she said. The waitress walked off. We looked at our menus and I peeked at June over my menu. She was humming tapping her fingers in the menu. I looked back at my menu and chose a burger with fries. We put our menus down in front of us. "So are you still going to pretend that you're my boyfriend in school?" She asked. "Yeah after all a deal is a deal" I said shrugging. I saw a trace of hurt in her eyes before it disappeared and I couldn't help wondering why. Then she nodded her head and sighed. "I am not looking forward to facing Sophia on Monday" she said rolling her eyes. "She a pretty nasty bitch" I replied. The waitress came back with our drinks. "are you guys ready to order?" She asked. "Yeah I'll have a hamburger with fries" I said. June spoke up and said, "I'll have Caesar salad with chicken" The waitress took down our orders and walked away. I opened my mouth and told her, "Did you know that Sophia use to be my girlfriend?" June's eyes met mine and she looked at me in shock then leaned into the table. "When was this?" She asked. "When I was a sophmore. "I liked her until I saw how she treated people. I saw her true colors and I found out I fell in love with a faker. I broke up with her as soon as I found out" I said. She looked at me for a long time. It was like we were playing some kind of staring contest. She opened her mouth, "Well I'm glad you broke up with her." "Why?" I asked curious of what she going to say. "She's needy and a gold digger Nick. I've known her ever since she was in middle school and she's always gone for the rich. She aims for the rich guys and she acts like she loves them but she just wants them for money." I looked at her for long time. "How long has Sophia been your bully?" "Since middle school" she said. Our waitress came back with our food and served it to us. We looked up at her and thanked her. When she left I began to eat my hamburger. I took a few bites. I looked into her eyes and said, "You know I used to be bullied."  She laughed and I looked at her confused. What was funny about me being bullied? "The bad boy was bullied? I don't believe it" she said shaking her head at me. She stabbed the salad with her fork and lifted it to her mouth. "I was! I wasn't always a bad boy you know. I was used to be a good little boy. " She lifted an eyebrow at me. "Then what turned the good boy to a bad one?" I knew she was going to ask me that.

"When I was a little boy I was bullied by a big guy named Hunter Leon. He use to beat me up everyday and I would always come home with a black eye or some other injury. "But what about your Mom and Dad did they know you were getting beat up?" She asked. "Well my Dad didn't know because he was off on business trips. My step mom knew though because I would come home with a bloody face and bruises on my stomach. But she would ignore the fact that I had them and  would act like this was the first time seeing me like that. Then one day he bullied me to the point when I snapped and just had enough. I knew I had to do something to make myself stronger. I trained myself and went to the gym. I begged my dad on the phone, to sign me up to be trained in boxing. I worked hard for it and after stages of blood and sweat, I felt ready. I knew that the next day I would walk in to school I would never have worry about Hunter again. One day Hunter came up to my locker and tried to beat me up. But before he could lay a finger on me, I grabbed him and shoved him against a locker. He got pretty angry and came after me but I punched his face. I beat him up pretty bad too cause there was blood everywhere in the school hall. That was my first fight and I will never forget it. Hunter never beat me up again after that. That was the day I became a bad boy" I said and took a bite out of my hamburger again. "Did you get in trouble?" She asked. "Yeah I was expelled from the school and my Dad was furious." I chuckled to myself. "Then he sent me to the toughest boarding school there was and I was pretty happy about it too. I had to act miserable when I left my house which was really hard because I was excited." "Why would you be happy to be sent to boarding school?" She asked me and leaned in curious to hear more. "Well because I got to learn from the most bad - ass kids in the United States on how to protect myself. They taught me everything. Like being faster, stronger, quick minded and many other things. That's where I met Brady." I finished my burger and ate my fries. "Brady went to boarding school?" She asked surprised. I chuckled and rubbed my chin. "Yeah he's beast in disguise. He was the top most dangerous kid in this state. But thats another story. Two years later Brady and I became the top most dangerous in the state. We became best friends after. I returned to school and Brady was home schooled. I thought that was my last time to see him. But we both were fortunate to cross paths again, because he was transferred our school." I smiled and June smiled back. I yawned and stretched my legs, "You ready to leave?" "Yeah I'm ready." I tipped the waitress and paid for our food. We left and June caught up to me. We got in the car and June faced me. "You know, you can still be the good boy you once were." I looked at her and shook my head "No I can't because I already have a bad reputation. I'm also not going back to being weak. "But I know you can stop being a bad b-" "June, don't you get I can never stop being one. This is me and if you can't accept well then get the hell away from me." My eyes widen. I just blew up at June. "June I'm-" "No Nick forget it" she said cutting me off and faced the window. I sighed and started the engine. The drive was silent the whole way home. I got out of car and opened June door. June looked down at the ground and mumbled "thanks" I watched her walk to her door and she turned her head to look at me. "Nick you are good." With that said she disappeared into her house. I felt so guilty afterwards, how could I be so heartless? I felt like I should call and tell her I'm sorry but I knew she wouldn't even pick up her phone. Instead I stared at the door wishing I never blew up at her in the first place.
