One week later
"And it's nice to see you too stranger" Fatima's eyes diverted from aimlessly scrolling through her phone; her fingers itching to click on the yellow app where she knew Zac frequently used. She wasn't much of a fan of Snapchat until she met him but he would always post something on his story because it would delete after so long.
After a few seconds, she fought through her urges and clicked on his story. He was clearly in the mall with some of his friends. She kept clicking until she saw a post of a pair of shoes with the caption "Y'all think my girl would like these?" She smiled and clicked off of the post before she heard her name being called
She glanced up and noted that all eyes were on her "You said something?"
Danni secretly grinned behind her menu as the other women surrounding the table of Atlanta Breakfast Club. Their friends from college, Lori, Angela and Belinda, invited them out for a quick brunch on an early Thursday afternoon to catch up but it was only four people who were engaged in the conversation. Fatima had been distracted since she arrived.
Angela and Belinda both glanced at each other before looking back at their friend. "What's up with you?"
"Nothing, I just wasn't paying attention."
"Mmhm...Like I was saying, it's good to see you Tima. We always get up with Danni but you're always busy."
Fatima nodded and took a sip of her pineapple mimosa before glancing over at Danni who was shaking her head "It happens when you're running your own business. Well five businesses at the same time."
"I told y'all that girl be busy." Danni commented cutting into the biscuits Lori ordered for an appetizer.
"How's Ian?" Belinda asked refilling her glass. Angela nudged her and cleared her throat making both Fatima and Danni lock eyes
"What was that?" Danni asked looking between the two
"Nothing...I told her that we weren't going to bring him up today."
Lori rolled her eyes "Here she goes"
Belinda shrugged "Its just you don't mention him anymore in the group chat."
Fatima cleared her throat "Ian and I are in the process of finalizing our divorce, which I told you that when I filed. Remember that?"
"Better question, why you so worried about his cheating ass?"
"Danni" Fatima warned with an even tone "He's good B." She took another sip of her drink. "You should call him and check in with him sometime. Just because we didn't work out doesn't mean throw away your friendship with him."
"You better not" Lori warned her moments before the waiter returned to their table to take their orders.
Danni and Lori ordered the breakfast tacos and Belinda ordered the shrimp and grits before turning towards Fatima while still scanning the menu "Do you want the oatmeal and granola Ti?"
Fatima's eyes lifted from the menu and shifted towards Danni before meeting Belinda's "I don't. Can I have the peach cobbler French toast a side of turkey bacon and cheese eggs please."
Danni was beyond tickled watching her best friend thrive at this table. Although it was Danni that Belinda and Angela generally saw the most of, she had been trying to maintain her distance and had only been in touch with Lori and Fatima.
Their last encounter ended with a disagreement on finances in relationships after both Danni and Lori realized that Belinda was seemingly attempting to shade the fact that Fatima was selling her house as apart of her divorce. It was then did Danni realize that she was outgrowing some of her most closest friends and the more she sat through this brunch, she noticed that Fatima was too.
