Chapter 13

Enmity Threat

"Emma?" a voice calls out

My eyes slowly creek open, I see Ethan sitting next to me. A faint grin grows on my face as I stare at him

"God it's so good to see you"

Ethan smiles, wiping tears from his eyes

"Oh god, you're awake!"

I slowly lean up, seeing wrapped bandages around my chest

"Where are we? Are we still at the camp?"

"No, we're in some pharmacy. Far away from the camp"

I look around. Shelves are messy with empty boxes lying on them, the floor has dust on it with trash scattered across. The windows and doors are broken, causing the cold wind to blow in. Making me shiver

"Did the others make it?"

Ethan stands up, handing me my coat

"Yeah. Brian is in the office helping William. Laura is somewhere around here looking for supplies"

I slip my coat on and stand up, walking to the small office with Ethan

"What happened? How did you guys escape?"

Ethan pauses

"We had to fight our way out. It was tough, I'm not proud of what happened back there. I'm just glad you made it out safe." He snatches an empty box of medicine from the dusty shelf. "I can't believe William killed Luke. I mean yeah he was a bad dude, but still...that look on Will's face when he shot him...it haunts me"

"He had to protect himself. Who knows what would happen next if he didn't shoot him"

"I know, but still. It just scares me the way he shot him down"

We reach the door, seeing an orangish tint glow from inside as I push the heavy door open. Seeing Brian sit by William

"Hey Brian"

He looks over and grins

"Thank god you're awake"

Brian gets up and hugs me, leaving his coat hanging over the wooden chair he sat in

"With the little amount of supplies here, I thought we'd never be able to help you"

I let go of him and walk over to William, seeing his bruised face. His left eye is covered up in a white bandage

"Is he gonna be ok?"

Brian heads over

"Yeah, he just needs to rest. He needed the most work, all the cuts on his face needed stitches. Luke did a toll on him"

Ethan heads over, looking at William

"Holy shit man, what happened to his eye!"

Brian sighs

"That crazed psycho almost knocked it out!"

"I knew Luke had anger issues...but I never thought he'd do something like- like this!"

I place my hand on my stomach, hearing it growl

"Is there any food around here?"

Ethan pulls out a granola bar, handing it to me

"This is all we got."

I open the wrapper and snap a piece off

"Do you guys want any?"
