"Alright, Mr. Potty Pants" Mark said, berating Justin in the bathroom. "It's a good thing I got you these." He said, holding the package of Goodnites. "Now take those wet pants off and let's get you into some proper underwear, K champ?"

Justin reluctantly obeyed, feeling a mix of shame and anger. He peeled off his wet pajamas, acutely aware of Mark's condescending gaze. As he stood there in his vulnerability, Mark tossed the Goodnites at him, emphasizing the absurdity of the situation.

Justin's reflexes allowed him to catch the package as it hit his chest, but the combination of nerves and embarrassment flustered him enough to drop the pull-ups onto the floor.

"Never learned how to play catch, huh champ?" Mark cruelly teased. "I guess that's what happens when there's no father in the home."

Justin looked up teary eyed as he reluctantly slid up the oversized training pants.

As Mark continued his relentless mockery, Justin felt a surge of anger building within him. He wanted to stand up for himself, to challenge the unjust treatment he endured. Yet, the fear of Mark's disapproval and the desire to avoid further humiliation kept him silent.

Once the humiliating ordeal in the bathroom concluded, Justin returned to the living room, where the atmosphere had shifted. The festive ambiance was tainted by the tension that lingered. Amy's eyes conveyed a mix of sympathy and helplessness, while Mia continued to find amusement in her stepbrother's predicament.

Throughout the gift-opening process, Mark made sly comments and gestures that magnified Justin's embarrassment. Every glance from Mia, every chuckle from Mark, intensified the emotional turmoil within him.

Despite the distress, Justin couldn't help but notice the genuine joy on Mia's face as she unwrapped her gifts. It struck him how the dynamics of his family had changed, and he couldn't shake the feeling of isolation.

As the morning continued, Justin grappled with conflicting emotions. Anger towards Mark, frustration with his own predicament, and a deep yearning for understanding from his mother. He longed for a moment when he could escape the infantilizing treatment and have an honest conversation with Amy.

Amy too wanted to have a good heart to heart with Justin. As she looked on at her son sadly opening his Christmas gifts with the padded underwear peeking out from the waistband of his pants, she could feel his embarrassment and understood completely how he must felt being in this infantile position that he thought he was free of long ago. She knew she had to tell Justin he wasn't alone.

She was going to have to tell him the truth... about herself.
